Phytochemical screening of four commercial products containing Salvia officinalis was carried out. Total phenolic content estimated spectrophotometrically through the use Folin–Ciocalteau method, flavonoid measured aluminum chloride and 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine colorimetric assays, isoflavones α/β-thujones were analyzed high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) gas chromatographic method. The analyses revealed absence thujones (i.e., genistin, genistein, daidzein) in all different extracts. polyphenolic compounds varied among samples, with extract T being richer both polyphenols flavonoids than other by 1.8–3.2 1.4–4.0 times, respectively (p-value < 0.05). These results highlight importance quality control salvia-based since a thujone-free rich could be good candidate for further preclinical clinical studies to identify an effective herbal approach suitable long-term therapy menopausal symptoms.

It known for its ability to nourish yin blood as well loosen the bowel relieve constipation. The pathophysiology functional constipation (FC) associated reduction in mucin-2 (MUC2) secretion microbial dysbiosis. To investigate underlying mechanism RCNSP against FC through MUC2 gut mucosal microbiota. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry characterized composition elucidate material basis action. model was induced via loperamide gavage (16 mg/kg) twice daily 7 days. Applying defecation function gastrointestinal motility assess severity. Hematoxylin eosin Alcian blue-periodic acid-schiff staining analyzed colonic morphology. Transmission electron microscope used observe ultrastructure goblet cells (GCs). Immunofluorescence colocalization, quantitative PCR, western blot assessed impact on gene protein expression within NLRP6/autophagy pathway. 16S rDNA employed sequence contained 12 components potential laxative effects. enhanced function, accelerated motility, maintained integrity. treatment significantly increased GC abundance production while preserving ultrastructure. At molecular level, colocalized key regulatory proteins modulated mRNA expressions Through sequencing analysis, altered microbiota composition. Specifically, it beneficial bacterial strains reducing harmful ones. Introduction Diabetes is a major health issue that has reached alarming levels worldwide. Although their effectiveness, the antidiabetic drugs have many side effects such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, and hepatic complications. Many plant species of genus Salvia L. “Arabian desert sage” ( deserti ) should began to be focus phytochemical bioactivity studies. Methods The study aims investigate, first-ever, antihyperlipidemic leaf hydroethanolic extract S. deserti, an endemic rare subshrub from Arabian desert. A single intraperitoneal injection alloxan monohydrate (160 mg/kg) was used induce type-2 diabetes. Development diabetes confirmed by measuring blood glucose collected tail vein after 72 h injection. Oral administration extracts at 200 400 mg/kg for 14 days were tested on alloxan-induced diabetic mice animals divided into 6 groups each. identity phenolic compounds S . conducted through HPLC-Electrospray Ionization-Mass Spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS) analyses. Results significantly decreased restored renal function reducing ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, LDH, urea creatinine. An improved lipid profile revealed reduced TC, TG LDL coupled with increased level HDL also observed. Moreover, treatment relieved oxidative stress (reduction MDA H 2 O activity antioxidant enzymes SOD, CAT GPx. presence several (derivatives ferulic, coumaric, caffeic acids, among other derivatives) could least in part explain obtained data empower use source bioactive ingredients antioxidant, properties. 2-(2-Phenylethyl)chromones (PECs) are the primary constituents responsible for promising pharmacological activities and unique fragrance of agarwood. However, O-methyltransferases (OMTs) involved in formation diverse methylated PECs have not been reported. In this study, we identified one Mg2+-dependent caffeoyl-CoA-OMT subfamily enzyme (AsOMT1) three caffeic acid-OMT enzymes (AsOMT2–4) from NaCl-treated Aquilaria sinensis calli. AsOMT1 only converts caffeoyl-CoA to feruloyl-CoA but also performs nonregioselective methylation at either 6-OH or 7-OH position 6,7-dihydroxy-PEC. On other hand, AsOMT2–4 preferentially utilizes as substrates produce structurally PECs. Additionally, accepts nonPEC-type such acid apigenin generate products. Protein structure prediction site-directed mutagenesis revealed that residues L313 I318 AsOMT3, well S292 F313 AsOMT4 determine distinct regioselectivity these two OMTs toward apigenin. These findings provide important biochemical evidence remarkable structural diversity
