Background. The majority of deaths in patients with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses (SMIs) are caused by natural causes, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). increased risk CVD somatic SMIs cannot be fully explained the contribution traditional factors, behavioral patients’ lifestyle peculiarities, influence antipsychotics. present review has following main objectives: (1) to aggregate evidence that neurodevelopmental disorders basis SMIs; (2) provide a studies have addressed shared genetic architecture SMI disease; (3) propose substantiate consideration independent endophenotypes SMIs, which will make it possible place research within framework concepts “neurodevelopmental continuum gradient” “endophenotype”. Methods. A comprehensive literature search was performed on 1 July 2024. using PubMed Google Scholar databases up June Results. current reveals considerable overlap between susceptibility loci for CVDs. We observed can considered distinct physical health-related endophenotypes. Conclusions. In this narrative review, results recent CVDs summarized. Reframing multisystem disease should contribute activation new SMIs.

Introduction Structural brain connectivity abnormalities have been associated with several psychiatric disorders. Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a chronic disabling disorder accelerated aging and increased risk of dementia, though findings in the rarely directly compared to those that occur aging. Methods We used an automated approach reconstruct key white matter tracts assessed tract integrity five participant groups. acquired one-hour-long high-directional diffusion MRI data from young control (CON, n =28), bipolar (BPD, =21), SCZ (n =22) participants aged 18-30, healthy elderly (ELD, =15) dementia (DEM, =9) participants. Volume, fractional (FA), radial diffusivity (RD) axial (AD) seven (anterior thalamic radiation, ATR; dorsal ventral cingulum bundle, CBD CBV; corticospinal tract, CST; three superior longitudinal fasciculi: SLF-1, SLF-2 SLF-3) were analyzed TRACULA. Group comparisons metrics performed using multivariate univariate analyses. Clinical relationships recent symptoms BPD Results A MANOVA showed group differences FA (λ=0.5; p=0.0002) RD (λ=0.35; p<0.0001) across tracts, but no significant AD volume. Post-hoc analyses indicated lower higher ELD DEM groups CON, Lower CON did not meet statistical significance. In participants, negative correlation was found between psychosis severity SLF-1 (r= -0.45; p=0.035), -0.49; p=0.02) SLF-3 -0.44; p=0.042). Discussion Our results indicate impaired populations consistent myelin damage. Impaired most prominent patients advanced illness.

Older adults diagnosed with schizophrenia face unique public health challenges, specific treatment needs, complex care demands, accelerated aging, and increased susceptibility to issues. This phenomenological study explored the existential realities needs of older schizophrenia. Fifteen participants, a mean age 69.47 (SD ± 9.47) years, ranging from 62 79 years old hailing rural regions, participated in study. Four main themes eight sub-themes emerge: compounding burden (challenges symptom management, comorbidities); abyss life filled emptiness (loss mental pillars, living agony); on margins society (the vicious cycle social self-isolation, unattainable welfare); glimmer light darkness (support systems, self-adjustment). The calls for healthcare professionals improve follow-up efficiency, strengthen engagement, understand patients' conditions enforce existing welfare policies mentally ill patients, enhance their quality life.

Abstract Background This study investigates the relationship between environmental risk factors and severe mental disorders using genome-wide methylation data. Methylation profile scores (MPS) epigenetic clocks were utilized to analyze alterations in a cohort comprising 211 individuals aged 6–17 years. Participants included offspring of schizophrenia (n = 30) bipolar disorder 82) patients, community control group 99). The aimed assess differences MPS indicative intrauterine stress aging across familial groups, their associations with cognition, prodromal psychotic symptoms, global functioning through statistical models. Results Individuals at high demonstrated significant associated pre-pregnancy maternal overweight/obesity, pre-eclampsia, early preterm birth higher weight (p.adj ≤ 0.001) as well decelerated Horvath Hannum 0.005). Among more positive general symptoms correlated related BMI overweight/obesity 0.008) accelerated all examined 0.012). Conclusions These findings underscore potential analysis quantify persistent effects events influence on onset particularly high-risk populations. Further research is essential elucidate underlying biological mechanisms during critical stages neurodevelopment.
