Microalgae have become a promising novel and sustainable feedstock for meeting the rising demand food feed. However, microalgae-based products are currently hindered by high production costs. One major reason this is that commonly cultivated wildtype strains do not possess robustness productivity required successful industrial production. Several strain improvement technologies been developed towards creating more stress tolerant productive strains. With the rising rates of chronic diseases, there is a growing consumer interest demand for sustainable dietary sources n-3 PUFAs. Currently, microalgae emerged as source PUFAs which are rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) eicosapentaenoic (EPA), regarded promising alternatives conventional (seafood) that cannot meet demands natural food supplements.
