Optimizing materials and associated structures for detecting various environmental gas pollutant concentrations has been a major challenge in sensing technology. Semiconducting metal oxides (SMOs) fabricated at the nanoscale are class of sensor technology which metallic species functionalized with dopants to modify their chemiresistivity crystalline scaffolding properties. Studies focused on recent advances sensors utilizing oxide nanostructures special emphasis structure-surface property relationships some typical n-type p-type SMOs efficient detection presented. Strategies enhance performances also discussed. These material have several advantages such as ease handling, portability, doped-based SMO ability pollutants low temperatures. displayed excellent sensitivity, selectivity, robustness. In addition, hybrid showed exceptional selectivity CWAs when irradiated visible light while displaying high reversibility humidity independence. Results that TiO2 surfaces can sense 50 ppm SO2 presence UV under operating temperatures 298–473 K. Hybrid response. For example, CuO–ZnO nanoparticle network 4:1 vol.% CuO/ZnO ratio exhibited responses three times greater than pure CuO six ZnO toward H2S. Chemiresistive gas sensors based on metal oxides have been widely applied in industrial monitoring, medical diagnosis, environmental pollutant detection, and food safety. To further enhance the sensing performance, researchers worked to modify structure function of material so that it can adapt different types conditions. Among numerous gas-sensitive materials, n-type TiO2 semiconductors are a focus attention for their high stability, excellent biosafety, controllable carrier concentration, low manufacturing cost. This Perspective first introduces mechanism nanostructures composite TiO2-based nanomaterials then analyzes relationship between properties composition, focusing also technical issues such as doping, heterojunctions, functional applications. The applications challenges nanostructured safety, other fields summarized detail. Finally, context practical application challenges, future development technologies new concepts explored, providing ideas directions multifunctional intelligent various fields.
