Abstract As smartphone addiction (SPA) among young learners grows, a consequential increase in learning burnout is observed. However, the association between SPA and burnout, especially context of foreign language (FL) learning, remains underexplored. In particular, factors that might mitigate this relationship potential variations across genders have not been sufficiently examined. Drawing upon control value theory social capital theory, study sheds light on moderating role teacher-student rapport (TSR) SPA-FL nexus, also explores gender differences. The research involved total 4,372 secondary-level students China (54.3 % boys), using student-reported data SPA, TSR, FL burnout. results revealed positive correlation learning. Furthermore, TSR played crucial relationship. Interestingly, differences were identified effect link. That is, only mitigated effects male students, but did hold true for female students. These findings theoretical pedagogical implications education.

Abstract Many previous studies have investigated the effects of social media use (SMU), including both general SMU and specific types (e.g., active passive SMU), on adolescents’ depression. However, very few these employed a person-centered approach. To address this gap, study conducted latent profile analysis using five indicators (i.e., problematic SMU, intensity, nighttime SMU) to identify potential patterns among adolescents. The participants were 986 Italian students (525 girls, 53.2%) from senior high schools, aged 13 20 years old ( M = 16.84, SD 1.60). Five profiles emerged: (1) Active users n 126, 12.8%), (2) Low-intensity 97, 9.8%), (3) Passive 251, 25.5%), (4) Problematic at night 358, 36.3%), (5) Highly 154, 15.6%). relative mediating self-esteem self-concept clarity found in relationships between This highlights heterogeneity adolescents, their association with depressive symptoms, underlying mechanisms.
