Abstract The bottleneck for the production of biofuels from microalgae consists on costly harvesting processes and low lipid production, immobilization technology could play a part making more feasible. aim this study was to evaluate effect alginate growth productivity Chlorella sorokiniana , so far, main focus has been its use wastewater treatment nutrient removal effluents. cultured in both free immobilized forms under optimal autotrophic conditions. Microalgae were calcium beads generated by mixing algal cells with sodium solution, followed extrusion into CaCl 2 solution. results obtained showed that beads, enhanced achieved dry cell weight 1.4-fold higher than culture, light transmittance also increased 54.21 ± 2.48 mg l −1 d culture 82.22 8.48 culture. Bioenergy is currently a major renewable energy source in Europe but faces an unclear future because of conflicting modelling results and the lack long-term policy. This paper identifies three challenges potential opportunities by reviewing bioenergy historical national deployment, current policy support, possible roles Europe. The first challenge on supply side. Analysing supply-consumption dynamics import dependency EU bioenergy, we find that security challenging for liquid biofuels those countries with highest per-capita consumption Second, definition sustainable studies sometimes inconsistent how policies label it. Third, demand side, there are unique competing uses without clear strategy We conclude to tackle these research. First, utilising untapped low environmental impacts could improve security. With the rapid development of economy and productivity, an increasing number citizens are not only concerned about nutritional value algae as a potential new food resource but also, in particular, paying more attention to safety its consumption. Many studies reports pointed out that analyzing solving seaweed issues requires holistic systematic consideration. The three main factors have been found affect algal physical, chemical, microbiological hazards. At same time, although awareness among producers consumers has increased, foodborne diseases caused by incidents occur frequently. It threatens health lives may cause irreversible harm if treatment is done promptly. A series also proved idea microbial contamination this problem. Therefore, efficient detection toxic pathogenic products urgent issue needs be addressed. two other factors, such physical chemical hazards, cannot ignored. Nowadays, techniques mainly focused on major hazards traditional methods. However, especially for microorganisms, use control time-consuming limitations terms accuracy. In recent years, these evaluations pathogens monitoring farm-to-table chain shown importance, during COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, there many developments heavy metals, toxins, pollutants. future, risk assessment will focus convenient, rapid, low-cost high-accuracy connected with some novel technologies, Internet Things (artificial intelligence, machine learning), biosensor, molecular biology, reach purpose simultaneous detection.
