Hydrogen isotopes are unique tools for identifying and understanding biological chemical processes. isotope labelling allows the traceless direct incorporation of an additional mass or radioactive tag into organic molecule with almost no changes in its structure, physical properties, activity. Using deuterium-labelled isotopologues to study mass-spectrometric patterns generated from mixtures biologically relevant molecules drastically simplifies analysis. Such methods now providing unprecedented levels insight a wide continuously growing range applications life sciences beyond. Microbial communities are believed to outperform monocultures in the complete catabolism of organic pollutants via reduced metabolic burden and increased robustness environmental challenges; however, interaction mechanism functional microbiomes remains poorly understood. Here, three functionally differentiated activated sludge (S1: sulfamethoxazole (SMX); S2: phenyl part SMX ([phenyl]-SMX) with stable accumulation its heterocyclic product 3-amino-5-methylisoxazole (3A5MI); A: 3A5MI rather than [phenyl]-SMX) were enriched. Combining time-series cultivation-independent microbial community analysis, DNA-stable isotope probing, molecular ecological network cultivation-dependent function verification, we identified key players involved degradation process. Paenarthrobacter Nocardioides primary degraders for initial cleavage sulfonamide group (−C–S–N– bond) degradation, respectively. Complete was achieved by their cross-feeding. The co-culture Nocardioides, Acidovorax, Sphingobium demonstrated that nondegraders Acidovorax enhancement degradation. Moreover, unraveled internal labor division patterns connections among active members centered on two degraders. Overall, proposed methodology is promisingly applicable would help generate mechanistic, predictive, operational understanding collaborative biodegradation various contaminants. This study provides useful information synthetic optimized functions.

Abstract Wasserstoffisotope sind einzigartige Werkzeuge zur Identifizierung und Erforschung biologischer oder chemischer Vorgänge. Wasserstoffisotopenmarkierungen erlauben den spurlosen direkten Einbau einer zusätzlichen Masseneinheit eines radioaktiven Markers in ein organisches Molekül, dies praktisch ohne Änderungen der chemischen Struktur, physikalischen Eigenschaften biologischen Aktivität. Die Verwendung von deuteriummarkierten Isotopologen Untersuchung spezifischen massenspektrometrischen (MS) Muster, die Gemischen biologisch relevanter Moleküle hervorgerufen werden, ermöglicht eine drastische Vereinfachung Analyse. Solche Methoden ermöglichen nun tiefe Einblicke einen großen, kontinuierlich anwachsenden Bereich Anwendungen Biowissenschaften darüber hinaus. Speziell Tritium ( 3 H) wird zunehmend eingesetzt, insbesondere pharmazeutischen Wirkstoffsuche. Aufwand Kosten Synthese markierter Verbindungen werden durch hohe Empfindlichkeit Analyse Zuverlässigkeit erhaltenen Daten mehr als ausgeglichen. Halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) have been extensively used in various consumer products and many are classified as persistent organic pollutants due to their resistance degradation, bioaccumulation potential toxicity. HFRs widely detected the municipal wastewater treatment solids plants (WWTPs), discharge agricultural application of which represent a primary source environmental contamination. This review seeks provide current overview on occurrence, fate, impacts WWTPs around globe. We first summarize studies recording occurrence representative solids, revealing temporal geographical trends distribution. Then, efficiency mechanism removal by biosorption, is known be process for from wastewater, during biological processes, discussed. Massive storage of dihydrogen (H2) in underground geological (UGSs) will be necessary to meet future H2 production ambitions. Such deep aquifers was simulated a high-pressure reactor, and the evolution 3 phases (natural gas/H2, formation water rock) with autochthonous microorganisms monitored over several weeks. These results show that methanogens do not necessarily dominate community, but sulfate-reducing activity formate bioproduction are systematically present. The experimental data were fed into biochemical model PHREEQC better understand interplay between phenomena observed. In particular, it shown microbial activities associated consumption led alkalinisation, which could explain, at least part, slower rate disappeared, even if sufficient CO2 sulfate remained system. Combined supposed local nutrient depletion, these encouraging for aquifers.
