Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is a transdiagnostic construct that encompasses rumination and worry, yet what precisely shared between worry unclear. To clarify this, we develop meta-control account of RNT. Meta-control refers to the reinforcement control mental behavior via similar computations as reinforce motor behavior. We propose are coarse terms for failure in meta-control, just tripping falling control. delineate four stages risk factors increasing chance at each, including open-ended thoughts (stage 1), individual differences influencing subgoal execution 2) switching 3), challenges inherent learning adaptive 4). Distinguishing these therefore elucidates diverse processes lead same excessive Our also subsumes prominent clinical accounts RNT into computational cognitive neuroscience framework.

Childhood emotional abuse (CEA) has been identified as a distal risk factor for later depression in adolescents. However, the underlying psychological mechanisms between CEA and adolescent are still poorly understood. This study aimed to explore roles of rumination resilience played association among Chinese Participants Setting. The sample included 919 students (52.56 % boys) with an average age 13.47 years from central province China. completed multiple measurements CEA, rumination, resilience, depression. Multivariate path analysis was applied examine relations these variables. Results showed (a) significantly positively related depression; (b) Rumination partially mediated relationship moderated (c) Resilience results revealed that both not only mediating but also moderating sample, suggesting indirect effects on via dependent each other. Hence, findings deepened understanding had several practical implications.

Stress-induced dysfunction of reward processing is documented to be a critical factor associated with mental illness. Although many studies have attempted clarify the relationship between stress and reward, few investigated effect acute on temporal dynamics processing. The present study applied event-related potentials (ERP) examine how differently influences anticipation consumption. In this study, seventy-eight undergraduates completed two-door task following Trier Social Stress Task (TSST) or placebo task. TSST group showed higher cortisol levels, perceived stress, anxiety, negative affect than control group. For group, magnitude elicited reduced cue-N2 but increased stimulus-preceding negativity (SPN), suggesting that controls were sensitive magnitude. contrast, these effects absent in reduces sensitivity during anticipatory phase. However, positivity (RewP) P3 both groups similar patterns, which suggests has no impact responsiveness consummatory These findings suggest selectively blunts rather

Abstract Neuroticism is a subclinical manifestation of the phenome depression, comprising depressive and anxiety symptoms, suicidal behaviors. Rumination positively associated with depression neuroticism may mediate effects on depression. This study aims to determine whether rumination or its components, including brooding reflection, alternatively, both are manifestations recruited 74 depressed subjects 44 healthy controls. The group was split into groups high versus low scores. We used partial least squares (PLS) examine mediation effects. found that reflection scores significantly higher in patients than Patients have increased severity anxiety, insomnia, neuroticism, current ideation as compared lower There strong positive association between rumination, lifetime PLS analysis shows does not phenome, because no discriminant validity could be established brooding, phenome. were able extract one validated latent vector from Overall, this supports theory just like affective behaviors, insomnia.

Age and depression may interact to produce a "double jeopardy" for cognitive impairment, executive functioning, in cognitively unimpaired aging. Few studies have considered middle age or the ethnoracial diversity of subjects, despite evidence more severe outcomes historically minoritized people. In this pilot study, we investigated impact on depression-related impairment underlying brain volumes middle-aged non-Hispanic White adults (116), Hispanic Black (60), with total number 176 adults. The result shows significant interaction between specifically adults, but not Prefrontal cortex volumes, which were reduced compared partially mediated relationship level across group. Collectively, these results suggest that negative functioning integrity be exacerbated by people particularly sensitive double jeopardy.

First-generation college students face greater life adversity and demonstrate higher internalized distress versus their continuing-generation peers. In 598 undergraduate students, this study tests: links between distress, moderation by trait rumination, whether effects differ for first-generation students. Four of six latent moderated structural equation models supported the hypothesis that rumination (the tendency to engage in negative, self-focused thought) moderates family financial chronic stress predict depression anxiety. Effects were similar Implications include offering interventions especially those with high stress.

Understanding the dynamic relationship between depressive symptoms and quality of life (QOL) is essential in improving long-term outcomes for patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). While previous studies often relied on cross-sectional data, there a pressing need stronger evidence based longitudinal data to better inform development effective clinical interventions. By focusing key symptoms, such interventions have potential ultimately enhance QOL individuals MDD.
