Environmental pollution has become a global issue attracting ever-increasing attention. Green technology innovation (GTI) is considered an effective strategy in countering this problem and helping achieve sustainability goals. However, the market failure suggests that intervention from government necessary to promote effectiveness of technological hence, its positive social impacts on emissions reduction. This study investigates how environmental regulation (ER) influences relationship between green CO2 reduction China. Employing data 30 provinces period 2003 2019, Panel Fixed-effect model, Spatial Durbin Model (SDM), System Generalised Method Moments (SYS-GMM) Difference-In-Difference (DID) models are applied take issues relating endogeneity spatial impact into consideration. The results indicate regulations positively moderate knowledge (GKI) but have much weaker moderation effect when process (GPI) considered. Among different types regulatory instruments, investment-based (IER) most promoting reduction, followed by command-and-control-based (CER). Expenditure-based (EER) less can encourage short-termism opportunistic behaviour among firms, who accept paying fines as cheaper cost over short-term than investment innovation. Moreover, spillover carbon neighbouring regions confirmed, particular IER CER implemented. Lastly, heterogeneity further examined considering differences economic development industrial structure across regions, conclusions reached remain robust. identifies market-based instrument, IER, works best Chinese firms. It also encourages GKI which may assist firms achieving long-term sustained growth. recommends finance system maximise policy instrument.

Abstract Carbon emission is a global issue, and China facing many problems to resolve it, especially in emission‐generating companies (EGCs). To maintain sustainable development, it necessary reduce carbon emissions for the well‐being of society, neutrality can play an important role. With targeting goal emissions, this research aims bridge gap literature by considering instruments duopoly market. The study sets up mathematical model game achieve desired objectives then applies simulation‐based optimization technique examine under different experiments. After manipulating various scenarios find optimal values instruments, results indicate that green bond provision, tax, quota vital role neutrality. Different combinations levels emissions. We further show combination tax upon EGCs plays key reducing during fifth scenario. In second scenario, provision reduces but lower than This offers reference policymakers move towards neutrality, beneficial government decide instruments.
