Many classes of compounds are known or suspected to disrupt the endocrine system vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. This review sources fate selected disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in environment includes that "legacy" contaminants, as well contaminants emerging concern. EDCs included for discussion organochlorine compounds, halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons, brominated flame retardants, per- polyfluoroalkyl substances, alkylphenols, phthalates, bisphenol A analogues, pharmaceuticals, drugs abuse steroid hormones, personal care products, organotins. An exhaustive survey these all environmental media (e.g., air, water, soil, biota, foods beverages) is beyond scope this review, so priority highlight which there a clear link between exposure effects humans biota from other taxa. Where appropriate, linkages also made regulatory limits such quality guidelines water sediments total daily intake values humans.

Despite the fact that metabolites of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO) are classified as hazardous substances, they continue to be released into environment from a variety sources and not usually monitored. Their wide use has led an increase in possible exposure pathways for humans, which is cause alarm. Moreover, there lack knowledge about behaviour these with respect toxicity, their biological effects on human health. The aim this work give overview APEO analysis, occurrences toxicity various environmental samples. have adverse wildlife, through release environment. Currently, some reviews available alkylphenols soil, sediments, groundwater, surface water food. However, none articles consider humans especially effect nervous immune system. This summarises APEOs matrices, e.g. water, food systems, isomer-specific issues. With emphasis we able cover most common exposure, whether direct or indirect.

Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) derived from aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) are increasingly recognized as groundwater contaminants, though the composition distribution of AFFF-derived PFASs associated with soils subsurface sediments remain largely unknown. This is particularly true for zwitterionic cationic PFASs, which may be incompletely extracted solids by analytical methods developed anionic PFASs. Therefore, a method involving sequential basic acidic methanol extractions was evaluated recovery anionic, cationic, field-collected, AFFF-impacted soils. The validated spike-recovery experiments equilibrated soil-water-AFFF standards. To determine relative importance lacking commercially available standards, their concentrations were estimated novel semiquantitation approach. Total PFAS determined compared total oxidizable precursor assay. Finally, described applied to two soil cores former fire-training areas in cations zwitterions found contribute up 97% mass. result demonstrates need extraction analysis methods, such ones presented here, that capable quantifying source zone
