Synthetic surfactant products are continuously released into the aquatic environment in large quantities, posing a burden on ecosystems as "pseudo–persistent" organic pollutant. Threshold derivation for protecting is challenging due to various homologous components of surfactants. With increasing urbanization and rapid industrialization, more environmental problems have arisen. Phthalates (PAEs) are the foremost most widespread plasticizers readily emitted from these manufactured products into environment. PAEs act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can serious impacts on aquatic organisms well human health. In this study, water quality criteria (WQC) of five (dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl (DEP), dibutyl (DBP), butyl benzyl (BBP) di(2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP)) for freshwater were developed using a species sensitivity distribution (SSD) toxicity percentage ranking (TPR) approach. The results showed that long-term (LWQC) SSD method could be 13.7, 11.1, 2.8, 7.8, 0.53 μg/L, respectively. Criteria continuous concentrations (CCC) derived TPR determined to 28.4, 13.1, 1.3, 2.5, 1.6 commonly measured in China surface waters at between ng/L μg/L. DBP, DEHP, di-n-octyl (DnOP) frequently detected PAEs, with occurrence rates ranging 67% 100%. ecological risk assessment decreasing order national level, DMP, DEP, DnOP. study will great benefit other countries revising standards conservation species.

Globally implemented ecological risk assessment (ERA) guidelines marginalize hormesis, a biphasic dose–response relationship characterized by low-dose stimulation and high-dose inhibition. The present study illuminated the promise of hormesis as scientific model for ERA per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) represented perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) perfluorooctanesulfonic (PFOS). A total 266 hormetic relationships were recompiled from 1237 observations, covering 30 species nine representative taxonomic groups. standardized amplitudes followed log-normal probability distribution, being subject to limits biological plasticity but independent stress inducers. SHapley Additive exPlanations algorithm revealed that target endpoint was most important variable explaining amplitudes. Subsequently, quantitative frameworks established incorporate into predicted no-effect concentration levels, with lower induction dose zero-equivalent point broader zone PFOS. Realistically, 10,117 observed concentrations PFOA PFOS gathered worldwide, 4% which fell within zones, highlighting environmental relevance hormesis. Additionally, potential identified in other legacy emerging PFAS well their alternatives mixtures. Collectively, it is time concept studies facilitate more realistic characterizations.

ABSTRACT In recent decades, increasing attention has been directed toward the effects of alkylphenols and bisphenols due to their demonstrated endocrine-disruptive effects. The eco-safety of plasticizer alternative di-isobutyl phthalate (DiBP) has received continued concerns owing to its large usage as a and high detection frequency in environments. concentrations dibutyl (DBP) DiBP the surface waters ranged from ng/L μg/L.
