Aquatic organisms are exposed to low concentrations of neuro-active chemicals, many them acting also as neuroendocrine disruptors that can be hazardous during earlier embryonic stages. The present study aims assess how exposure early in live environmental two selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), fluoxetine and sertraline, tributyltin (TBT) affected cognitive, metabolic cardiac responses the model aquatic crustacean Daphnia magna. Blood-based biochemical assays are used as predictive and diagnostic methods to evaluate fish welfare in aquaculture research.
