The digital economy is crucial in facilitating cities’ green and low-carbon transformations, balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability. However, its role mitigating urban carbon emissions remains underexplored existing research. This study examines how technologies contribute to emission reduction by integrating circular theory behavioral economics theory. Based on expert interviews a systematic literature review, the research applies Decision-Making Trial Evaluation Laboratory Interpretive Structural Modeling (DEMATEL-ISM) methodology identify 13 key factors driving transitions. findings highlight that economy-driven transformation, infrastructure development e-commerce logistics optimization are pivotal for reducing emissions. offers theoretical insights into economy’s development. It also provides practical guidance policymakers, managers businesses. These strategies can enhance energy efficiency, reduce promote ecological

With the rapid development of China’s economy, issue environmental pollution during urbanization has become increasingly prominent, posing a significant threat to residents’ health and quality life. While existing studies have explored economic impacts smart city initiatives their effects on carbon emissions, relationship between policies urban emissions remains underexplored. This study fills this gap by examining impact pilot pollutant using panel data from 280 Chinese cities (2007–2021) multi-period DID model. The findings demonstrate that construction effectively reduces level in cities, with effect persisting even after conducting various robustness tests. Furthermore, our mechanism analysis reveals upgrading industrial structure, enhancing green innovation capabilities, improving energy efficiency are crucial means which mitigates emissions. Additionally, we identify enhancement digital infrastructure reinforcement regulations can enhance mitigation efficacy development. suppressive is more pronounced non-resource-based cities.

ABSTRACT In the digital age, using tools to promote environmental governance has gained significant attention. Digital finance (DF) integrates financial systems with technologies, offering a new financing channel and mechanism for collaboratively reducing pollutants carbon emissions (RPCEs). This paper explores multifaceted impact of DF on RPCE, China as case study. Utilising panel data from 30 provinces in 2011 2021, study applies benchmark regression, mediation, moderation spatial econometric models empirically analyse DF's effects mechanisms RPCE. The findings revealed that: (1) positively influences industrial structure upgrading playing key role this process. (2) RPCE varies across regions e‐government demonstration zones China, showing stronger central zones. (3) can be strengthened by increasing green fiscal expenditure. (4) negative spillover effect neighbouring areas was witnessed, where local development inhibited growth adjacent through ‘siphon effect’. As result, modern system should tailored regional characteristics while accelerating upgrading. By leveraging expenditure regulations, potential fully realised, creating synergistic

The in-depth discussion and analysis of the synergistic effect new-type urbanization, greening digitalization (NUGD) is important for achievement sustainable social, ecological economic development. Therefore, in this study, an evaluation index system composed these three subsystems was constructed Chinese cities from 2011 to 2021. comprehensive collaborative development levels each subsystem were measured by means including entropy weight method coupling coordination model, respectively. Then, methods such as ESDA Dagum Gini coefficient applied investigate spatiotemporal evolution spatial differences triple synergy NUGD cities. Finally, constraining factors revealed using obstacle degree model. findings demonstrated following: (1) Overall, their increasing, with moderate overall levels. (2) exhibited upward trend. Spatially, level showed distinct differentiation, being higher east lower west. multidimensional dynamic variation characteristics obtained through kernel density estimation that exhibits high stability. (3) within between eastern western areas largest, intensity transvariation main source. (4) five criterion layers, social urbanization variables, key constraints affected cities, restrictive role proportion urban construction land per capita postal business volume should not be ignored. This study provides a valuable reference decision-making guidance promote China’s acceleration toward new path supported both green transformation.

Exploring the impact of new economic forms such as digital economy (DE) on carbon emissions is crucial for China’s “dual carbon” goals. This paper assesses DE emission intensity (CI) from a 2011–2021 perspective energy consumption in 30 provinces (Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Tibet are excluded) by using double fixed-effects model evaluating DE. Based results 2011 to 2021, (1) CI differ spatially temporally. In contrast CI, shows pattern low northwest high southeast. The changes similar Hu Huanyong’s line, with considerable southeast, especially coastal region. (2) Chinese DE’s control effects (−0.027) vary A significant negative effect seen both eastern western regions, region having greatest (−0.030), positive but insignificant central (3) Total (TEC), structure (EC) efficiency (EI) all pathways its influence. Path China mainly dominated dual paths (Accounting over 47%), fewer single multiple paths. Among them, main path types TEC EC east EC, EI regions; meanwhile, unchanged most China, changed west. these findings, development policies based regional differentiation reducing emissions.
