Despite knowing about climate risks for decades, oil and gas companies continually increase production. Infants, children, adolescents are most vulnerable to intensifying air pollution other upheavals of emergency. Here, we illustrate localized impacts global processes by focusing on the Suncor Oil Refinery in Commerce City, Colorado, state's only refinery a major polluter. The facility illustrates broader structural environmental health vulnerabilities living and/or attending school near fossil fuel infrastructure. Drawing community‐based, in‐depth interview data from 53 participants, show how children have been affected facility's pollution. In 93% interviews, worries over children's problems—including respiratory problems, chronic illnesses such as asthma cancer, developmental disorders, nosebleeds, dizziness—emerged primary concerns consistent harmful sources stress ongoing trauma. Rather than being adequately protected regulations, instead face excessive rates, issues, contested illness responses medical providers. Their parents, teachers, caretakers exceptional limitations protecting them. We establish key harms refining answer call more rigorous examinations fuel‐based systems impact quality life.

The purpose of the current study was to evaluate air quality in Dong Thap province, Vietnam. data collected during 2019–2020, representing time pre- and mid-COVID-19. Twenty-seven samples (in areas urban, residential-administrative, hospital-schools, industry-craft village areas) were used for evaluation. Air evaluated using national technical regulations on quality, including QCVN 26:2010/BTNMT 05:2013/BTNMT. difference mean between examined a one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan test at significant level 5%. relationship parameters microclimate factors tested Pearson correlation. Principal component analysis (PCA) utilized identify critical variables potential sources variation. Cluster (CA) applied group similar sites, thus recommending monitoring site selection. results show that area is not polluted. concentrations noise, TSP, SO2, NO2in mid-COVID-19 pandemic significantly lower than those pre-COVID-19 due social distancing policy. There close correlation among parameters, except humidity. PCA identified two four variation, explaining 84.3%, 100%, 100% 89.7% total variance residential–administrative, villages, respectively. CA divided 27 sampling sites into eight groups differences, mainly humidity, wind speed CO. Eight could be potentially reduced from program representativeness cost-effectiveness purposes. All are monitoring, variation traffic activities, industrial production, craft daily life fuels residential areas. provide useful information management. Future programs should include toxic pollutants programs. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2024-010-02-012 Full Text: PDF

Research background: This study identifies the key factors influencing environmental health across a global panel of countries, focusing on protection from hazards, as informed by existing literature, while also shedding light novel aspects these causal relationships. Purpose article: aims to reveal, through comprehensive review relevant underexplored phenomena spatial diffusion and contagion national behaviors nonlinear dynamics between performance its determinants, acknowledging significant diversity in characteristics countries studied. Methods: Spatial analysis econometric methods, including regression alongside dynamic models using threshold techniques, were employed meet study’s objectives. Findings & value added: major finding is that nations shows clustering influenced economic institutional factors. effect arises processes, evidenced analysis. Furthermore, this demonstrates variations behavior can be attributed differing levels development specific internal conditions within countries. Notably, country’s gross domestic product proportion industries economy have substantial practices, establishing distinct impact thresholds. research enriches academic dialogue illustrating, thresholds, less developed an increased industrial share leads degradation. Moreover, influence other examined varied depending category country under review, highlighting nuanced effects variables outcomes.
