Background: Flavonoids are recognized for their extensive health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and neuroprotective effects. Traditional methods flavonoid extraction, often dependent on toxic solvents high energy inputs, have prompted the exploration of more sustainable efficient extraction techniques. This movement aligns with global shift towards greener methodologies that promise to enhance purity yield these vital phytochemicals therapeutic purposes. Objective: In this hypothesis-driven study, we aimed evaluate effectiveness advanced green technologies—microwave-assisted (MAE), supercritical fluid (SFE), ultrasound-assisted (UAE)—for isolating flavonoids from botanical sources. A secondary objective was assess antioxidant capabilities extracted flavonoids, thereby linking efficiency process bioactivity compounds. Methods: The study utilized MAE, SFE, UAE extract a predetermined plant source, optimizing parameters each method maximize activity. quantitatively measured in mg per gram dry material, while capacity evaluated using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) assay, focusing percentage radical scavenging Results: Our findings indicated MAE most method, producing 120 mg/g an 85% SFE followed, yields 100 90 mg/g, capacities 80% 75% activity, respectively. These results not only supported our hypothesis techniques could outperform traditional extracting but also highlighted as superior technique terms both efficacy. Conclusion: validates potential technologies, particularly microwave-assisted effective alternatives conventional methods. By extracts, technologies pave way significant advancements pharmaceutical nutraceutical industries, fostering deeper understanding utilization wellness.

This study aimed to optimize the extraction conditions for a valuable source of antioxidants: seaweed. Therefore, ten seaweed samples were subjected solid–liquid (SLE), where (biomass (g): solvent (mL) ratio, temperature, and time) optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The seaweeds also subcritical water (SWE) (140 190 °C) ultrasound-assisted (UAE) (10 20 min). antioxidant capacity extracts was determined through ferric-reducing power 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid). total phenolic content revealed significance temperature biomass; ratio parameters in process with higher generally promoting release compounds. Furthermore, applying RSM allowed identification optimal establishment predictive models that can be industrial-scale processes. potency composite index (APCI) shows SWE at °C stands out, E. bicyclis reaching an APCI score 46.27%. AGREEprep evaluation showed UAE is most sustainable method, achieving highest (0.69). results this contribute development efficient standardized protocols each species, allowing maximum yield antioxidants.

Four aromatic and therapeutic plants, Thymus vulgaris, Rosmarinus officinalis, Pimpinella anisum, Foeniculum vulgare, were examined in this comparative study. The objectives to assess its phytochemical composition; polyphenol, flavonoid, tannin content; antioxidant antibacterial activity; bioactive molecule identification; critical trace element quantification. Its aqueous organic extracts examined, focusing on ethanolic extracts. extract’s ability neutralize free radicals was validated by studies tests, underscoring their role preventing oxidative stress. An Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography—High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry Orbitrap Exploris 120 (UPLC–HRMS Orbitrap) used identify the chemicals, results showed a variety of compounds having properties. important elements found these plants also measured using Graphite Furnace-Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (GF-AAS). These components are essential biological characteristics especially capacities. Among extracts, it observed that officinalis vulgare exhibited MIC 3.91 µg/mL against Staphylococcus. Additionally, R. demonstrated Escherichia coli. All data interpreted shown principal component analysis. grouped explained statistical method, which revealed strong association between abundance chemicals four under investigation.

The brown seaweed Saccharina latissima is an abundant, although yet underutilized, source of natural bioactive compounds commonly found in western regions. In recent years, algae have garnered attention as promising sources polyphenols, particularly phlorotannins. recovery these relevant components by eco-friendly and energy-efficient methods with solvents GRAS (Generally recognized safe) contributes to minimizing environmental impact, promotes sustainability. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) microwave-assisted (MAE) optimized Box-Behnken design (BBD) were explored for this purpose. evaluated considering the process yield quality recovered extracts phenolic phlorotannin levels, their antioxidant capacity was assessed DPPH ABTS assays. MAE techniques (80 °C, 2% EtOH/Water at 40 mL g-1) PLE2 °C water) showed highest extract yields, increases 65.76% 37.36%, respectively, compared CRE. also achieved higher TPC (ABTS) values 61.88% 80.39%, respectively. (optimized) increased 53.90% 36.42%, Regression analysis confirmed accuracy models assessing interaction parameters (adjustment p < 0.05 adequacy R2 > 0.86). Therefore, study presents eco-efficient approaches recovering antioxidants from algae, contributing valorization resources industry enhancing application.
