Student

engagement
with
genAI
chatbots
across
broader
spectrum

applications.

interest
as

their

Background:
The
development
of
generative
artificial
intelligence
(GAI)
is
transforming
higher
education.
This
systematic
literature
review
synthesizes
recent
empirical
studies
on
the
use
GAI,
focusing
its
impact
teaching,
learning,
and
institutional
practices.

PRISMA
guidelines,
a
comprehensive
search
strategy
was
employed
to
locate
scientific
articles
GAI
in
education
published
by
Scopus

Science
between
January
2023

Purpose

Abstract
University
students
have
begun
to
use
Artificial
Intelligence
(AI)
in
many
different
ways
their
undergraduate
education,
some
beneficial
learning,
and
simply
expedient
completing
assignments
with
as
little
work
possible.
This
exploratory
qualitative
study
examines
how
used
AI
a
large
General
Education
course
on
sustainability
technology
at
research
university
the
United
States
2023.
Thirty-nine
documented
of
final
project,
which
involved
analyzing
conceptual
networks
connecting
core
concepts.
Through
iterative
coding,
we
identified
key
patterns
students’
use,
including
higher-order
writing
tasks
(understanding
complex
topics,
finding
evidence),
lower-order
(revising,
editing,
proofreading),

learning
activities
(efficiency
enhancement,
independent
research).
Students
primarily
improve
communication
original
ideas,
though
leveraged
