Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR VR), collectively known as Extended (XR), are increasingly gaining traction thanks to their technical advancement the need for remote connections, recently accentuated by pandemic. Remote surgery, telerobotics, virtual offices only some examples of successes. As users interact with XR, they generate extensive behavioral data usually leveraged measuring human activity, which could be used profiling users' identities or personal information (e.g., gender). However, several factors affect efficiency profiling, such technology employed, action taken, mental workload, presence bias, sensors available. To date, no study has considered all these together in entirety, limiting current understanding XR profiling. In this work, we provide a comprehensive on user technologies (i.e., AR, VR). Abstract In the realm of robotics and automation, robot teleoperation, which facilitates human–machine interaction in distant or hazardous settings, has surged significance. A persistent issue this domain is delays between command issuance action execution, causing negative repercussions on operator situational awareness, performance, cognitive load. These delays, particularly long-distance operations, are difficult to mitigate even with most advanced computing advancements. Current solutions mainly revolve around machine-based adjustments combat these delays. However, a notable lacuna remains harnessing human perceptions for an enhanced subjective teleoperation experience. This paper introduces novel approach sensory manipulation induced adaptation delayed teleoperation. Drawing from motor learning rehabilitation principles, it posited that strategic manipulation, via altered stimuli, can feeling The focus not introducing new skills adapting conditions; rather, leverages prior coordination experience context objective reduce need extensive training sophisticated automation designs. human-centered experiment involving 41 participants was conducted examine effects modified haptic cues teleoperations were generated high-fidelity physics engines using parameters robot-end sensors engine simulations. results underscored several benefits, notably considerable reduction task time user about visual Real-time feedback, anchoring method, emerged as significant contributor showcasing reduced load, bolstered self-confidence, minimized frustration. Beyond prevalent methods design training, research underscores pivotal avenue It seeks enhance efficacy through rapid adaptation, offering insights beyond just optimizing robotic systems delay compensations.

Virtual Reality (VR) is gaining ground in the robotics and teleoperation industry, opening new prospects as a novel computerized methodology to make humans interact with robots. In contrast more conventional button-based teleoperations, VR allows users use their physical movements drive robotic systems virtual environment. The latest devices are also equipped integrated eye-tracking, which constitutes an exceptional opportunity for monitoring users' workload online. However, such fairly recent, human factors have been consistently marginalized so far telerobotics research. We thus covered these aspects by analyzing extensive behavioral data during simulated guidance of industrial robot through pick-and-place task. Users drove via action-based controls under low (single-task) high (dual-task) mental demands. collected self-reports, performance eye-tracking data. Specifically, we asked i) how interactive features affect workload, additionally tested ii) sensibility diverse eye parameters vigilance throughout performed faster accurately, while showing lower when using control. Among parameters, pupil size was most resilient indicator it highly correlated self-reports not affected user's degree motion VR. Our results bring fresh human-centric overview human-robot interactions VR, systematically demonstrate potential contexts.

This paper presents an alarm system and teleoperation control framework, comparing ROS 1 2 within a local network to mitigate the risk of robots failing reach their goals during autonomous navigation. Such failures can occur when robot moves through irregular terrain, becomes stuck on small steps, or approaches walls obstacles without maintaining safe distance. These issues may arise due combination technical, environmental, operational factors, including inaccurate sensor data, blind spots, localization errors, infeasible path planning, inability adapt unexpected obstacles.
