Abstract
Ocean
sustainability
initiatives
–
in
research,
policy,
management
and
development
will
be
more
effective
delivering
comprehensive
benefits
when
they
proactively
engage

Ocean
Literacy
(OL)
is
essential
for
changing
human
behaviours
and
practices
to
improve
ocean
sustainability.
Recently,
the
concept
has
become
a
focal
topic
in
coastal
research,
including
as
key
pillar
of
United
Nations
Decade
Science
Sustainable
Development.
As

evolve,
it

synthesise
existing
evidence
base

they

growing
realisation
that
societal
challenges
related

marine
environment

only

addressed
through
more
effective
integration
with
all
aspects
of
social
sciences.
