Positive reappraisal strategies have been found to reduce negative affect following the recall of personal events. This study examined restorative effect two mood-repair instructions (self-compassion vs benefit-focused reappraisal) and a control condition with no Mood Induction Procedure by using guided autobiographical event. A total 112 university students participated in online (81% women, Mage: 21.0 years). Immediately memory recall, participants were randomised each [(self-compassion:

Aims Cognitive models propose that negative cognitive biases in attention (AB) and interpretation (IB) contribute to the onset of depression. This is first prospective study test this hypothesis a sample youth with no mental disorder. Methods Participants were 61 aged 9–14 years At baseline (T1) we measured AB (passive-viewing task), IB (scrambled sentences task) self-report depressive symptoms. Thirty months later (T2) disorder, symptoms life events (parent- child-report). The tendency to draw negative conclusions from ambiguous information (interpretation bias) is prevalent across emotional disorders and plays a key role in the development maintenance of pathological worry anxious mood. Assessing interpretation bias using valid reliable measures central empirical research. A commonly used measure scrambled sentences test (SST), originally relating depression. Given association between worry, we aimed develop psychometrically evaluate new version SST with items pertaining common domains for use anxiety In Studies 1-3 (analogue samples, combined N = 288), showed excellent construct validity (moderate-to-strong associations anxiety-related measures), reliability (split-half test-retest reliability). We confirmed Study 4 (N 215 individuals generalised disorder). Furthermore, demonstrated specificity analogue clinical samples: was associated trait but not rumination, while original depression largely opposite pattern. Overall, robust that may be especially useful research into cognitive processes underpinning anxiety.

Abstract Purpose Depressive symptoms are associated with reduced processing of and memory for positive content. These cognitive biases maintain depressive states, presumed to be interrelated. This study examined the effect a single-session training process (or inhibit) stimuli, on new emotional Methods Participants (N = 138) were randomly assigned conditions designed increase or inhibit Then, they made self-referential judgments concerning positive, negative neutral words. Lastly, free-recalled words completed depression questionnaire. Results Training was effective in directing participants’ efforts. However, judgment content only significant when contingent levels. Positive endorsement recall negatively affected by among participants higher scores. Conclusions findings shed light possible adverse effects extensive exposure depression.
