Abstract Although management research has a rich tradition of both descriptive and prescriptive theorizing, the latter is often (and erroneously) viewed as unscientific, purely practice‐oriented, or simply corollary analysis. Prescriptive theorizing concerns how things should be they can achieved, opposed to which focuses on why are (interrelated). Accordingly, strong normative instrumental properties, especially relevant when addressing pressing societal, ecological, ethical concerns, also referred grand challenges, that demand re‐evaluation established norms behavioural patterns. However, this opportunity currently underutilized in literature, there lack guidance leverage principles theorizing. Purpose Firms are increasingly pressured to comply with mandatory supply chain transparency (SCT) regulations. Drawing on information processing theory (IPT), this study aims show how blockchain technology can address uncertainty and equivocality in assuring regulatory compliance an interorganizational network (ION). Design/methodology/approach IPT is applied a single case of ION the mining industry that aimed implement SCT The authors build rich proprietary data set consisting interviews substantial secondary material from actors along chain. Lithium-ion battery (LIB) circular supply chains (CSCs) present unique safety challenges among operation processes. Blockchain technology can be a promising solution for addressing these challenges, by enabling effective tracking and verification of safety-related information throughout the chain. However, how blockchain mitigate issues from chain perspective is poorly understood. This study proposes theory-supported framework through intervention-based research (IBR) to provide guidance LIB CSC management.
