Abstract Circular economy (CE) is the way forward to protect an endangered environment, promote social justice, and advance sustainable balanced regional economic development. The proliferation of CE concept circular startup (CSU) boom coincides with digital transformation, a socioeconomic change propelled by widespread adoption technologies. This paper uses systems theory perspective study entrepreneurial ecosystem's (DEE) role in CSU formation. Fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) used empirically explore configurational recipes for presence absence high formation rate. results reveal that formation, DEE elements, such as protection access, act critical drivers, while other elements take on supportive role. findings also show complementarity effects, substitution neutral permutations among configurations.

However, mechanisms that lead to impact on performance are still elusive. circular economy one most recent approaches address sustainability challenges. Drawing perspective technology-enabled organizational capabilities contingency theory, this study first analyze how systems enable practices become higher-order enhance performance, as well moderation environmental uncertainty exerts relationship. Using partial least squares path modeling, empirical evidence demonstrates fully mediate relationship performance. Meanwhile, negatively moderates both mediation capabilities-business For managers, research embedding into processes for transitioning model can present economic benefits depending upon within their specific operating environment. Finally, our analysis method combines predictive causal techniques with structural equation modeling applies compelling approach testing conditional effects.

Circular economy (CE) adoption is spreading worldwide, and it aims at decoupling the creation of value from resource consumption, leading to sustainable responsible production consumption as highlighted in Sustainable Development Goal 12. The circular transition will ask for transformation companies workforce, both qualitative quantitative perspectives. set required skills be influenced by transition, while degree implementation activities depend on availability adequate skills. Nevertheless, extant literature has not reached a consensus which competences are few studies have approached this topic all. This paper presents systematic review identify categorize that can facilitate practices manufacturing companies. identified were systematically organized within structured framework extending Porter's Value Chain. Perception and awareness can affect behaviour decision-making, for example, how companies implement Circular Economy (CE) practices. However, there is limited empirical research about this topic. Thus, we investigated the perception of representatives from water-intensive bio-based sectors regarding CE concept based on interviews a survey with 10 in Sweden. Our results indicate that understood mainly as zero waste its key principles are resource efficiency ecodesign. Missing (or partially addressed) important elements consumption, social aspects, regenerative role CE, collaboration, Industrial Symbiosis. The main benefit implementing circular strategies economic, barrier lack financial resources. have broader understanding benefits than companies, more clarification standardisation necessary to avoid misunderstanding other concepts such sustainability.

For this happen, changes in societal systems production sectors, from micro macro, are required. present research, based on multiple case‐study explorative approach start‐ups (CSUs), investigates their adoption impact assessment methods, social certifications contribution better integration dimension CE model. Results indicate that three out six CSUs carefully measure certify Life Cycle Assessment resulted most adopted method, while two also certified benefit corporations. mainly oriented toward use quantitative methods for measurement Additional efforts still needed implementation qualitative properly highlight achievement benefits (environmental awareness, employees' engagement, work time free balance, consumers health safety, among others) stakeholders (workers, local community, consumers). Nevertheless, case studies potential supporting transition fair at same facilitating aspects Finally, by developing appropriate consumer models, can strongly affect consumption behaviors habits, making them more aware responsible life cycle impacts improvement potential.

In Europe, NACE codes are used for the official classification of sectors, however, circular economy is not sufficiently captured in this classification. Therefore, paper improves previous attempts defining activities and jobs by web scraping techniques applied to each company Belgium. We analyze their first, second, third compare these they should have been allocated according data. Subsequently, we calculate circularity scores every sector construct an indicator number companies jobs. The results show that lower than baseline from statistics when only consider companies' first main code. estimates higher also take second into account estimated far baseline. This research upgrades classifications sectors demonstrates how novel data might improve our understanding capacity build Based on paper, recommend a uniform collection such as reporting standards, inclusion all strategies sectoral classifications.
