Fly Ash Characterisation for Rare Earth Elements (REEs) Beneficiation in Türkiye DOI Open Access

The rapid advancement of technology is continuously increasing the need for rare earth elements (REEs). These strategically important metals are mainly sourced from primary resources, and then secondary resources explored. Despite significant issues caused by post products, fly ash coal-fired power plants can be considered a source due to its high REE content. This study conducted characterization analyses six samples in Türkiye investigated potential enrichment. ashes were analysed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), diffraction (XRD) methods. enrichment REEs two selected was examined. Total values found 168.9 244.9 ppm. results indicate that utilized as REEs. Moreover, application bioleaching both an economically viable environmentally friendly alternative. In this context, concluded have recovery, method contribute sustainable use existing resources. also validates findings comparing them with literature.

Not having the same grade of popularity as other metals like rare earth elements, gold, copper, etc., strontium is a chemical element with wide uses in daily life, which why it appears EU 2023 list Critical Raw Materials. Among sources (with celestine serving raw material) used to recover element, recycling some Sr-bearing secondary wastes under consideration, and also worth mentioning interest removal from radioactive effluents. To reach these goals, several technological alternatives are being proposed, most widely adsorption or one its isotopes on solid materials. The present work reviews recent advances (for 2024) utilization diverse technologies, including leaching, adsorption, liquid–liquid extraction, recovery/elimination Sr(II) common 90Sr 85Sr radionuclides different liquid wastes. While membrane technologies useful for treating Sr-diluted solutions (in mg/L order), extraction more suitable treatment Sr-concentrated g/L order).

Industrial byproduct gypsum (BPG) is a secondary product that mainly composed of calcium sulfate discharged during industrial production. BPG primarily consists desulfurized gypsum, phosphogypsum, and titanium which account for 88% the total in China. The large-scale utilization these three types solid waste crucial safe disposal BPG. contains various impurities harmful elements, limiting its applications. continuous accumulation poses serious threat to safety environment.
