Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a critical global public health threat, exacerbated by the presence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in environmental matrices, particularly Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). This study investigated potential Lawsonia inermis (Henna) extracts to inhibit MDR surface water, sewage, abattoir leachate. Using cold maceration extraction method, methanol aqueous as solvent, antibacterial activity Henna leaf seed was assessed against eight isolates obtained from The results showed exceptional antimicrobial activity, especially with demonstrating 100% inhibition bacteria, followed (93.7%). minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) bactericidal (MBC) values confirmed efficacy extracts. All displayed profound (AI) S. enterica AGS2 strain. Citrobacter freundii ADAI most susceptible isolate. Our findings suggest that could serve viable, eco-friendly, cost-effective solution for reducing LMICs. highlights plant-based products combating AMR matrices promoting health. have significant implications development sustainable leachate water treatment strategies control LMICs through solutions.

Background/Objectives: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global issue driven by the overuse of antibiotics in healthcare, agriculture, and veterinary settings. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) act as reservoirs for antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) antibiotic genes (ARGs). The One Health approach emphasizes interconnectedness human, animal, environmental health addressing AMR. This scoping review analyzes wastewater’s role AMR spread, identifies influencing factors, highlights research gaps to guide interventions. Methods: followed PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed Web Science databases articles published up June 2024, supplemented manual reference checks. focused on wastewater source AMR, including hospital effluents, industrial urban sewage, agricultural runoff. Screening selection were independently performed two reviewers, with conflicts resolved third. Results: Of 3367 studies identified, 70 met inclusion criteria. findings indicated that residues, heavy metals, microbial interactions are key drivers development. Although WWTPs aim reduce contaminants, they often create conditions conducive horizontal gene transfer, amplifying resistance. Promising interventions, such advanced methods regulatory measures, exist but require further implementation. Conclusions: plays pivotal dissemination. Targeted interventions management essential mitigate risks. Future should prioritize understanding dynamics ecosystems evaluating scalable mitigation strategies support efforts.

Bacterial cells produce a variety of exopolysaccharide (EPS) throughout their life cycle. EPS plays crucial role in the formation biofilms and control environmental processes microbial communities. The bacterial community benefits from several ways, including nutrient compartmentation storage, stress resistance synergism. generation by consortium-associated bacteria, which involves microorganisms, is versatile efficient for use industrial processes, such as biotechnology pollution degradation. qualitative quantitative chemical characteristics consortium's are mostly determined type culture utilized, type, temperature, pH. main goal study was to find out how biosynthesis works consortium culture. To achieve maximum regeneration, pH, carbon, nitrogen sources were optimized. A three strains i.e. Klebsiella pneumonia strain, Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain Burkholderia cepacian that distinguished capacity developed part study. total production detected after 8 days incubation at pH 7.5 (15.5 g/L) temperature 35 °C (12.60 g/L). optimum identified 17.84 g/L 21.07 when ammonium sulfate glucose employed carbon supplements, respectively. protein concentration 3067 µg/mL, more than carbohydrate (263.10 µg/mL) DNA (7.60 content. protein/carbohydrate ratio present 11.65, much higher prior investigations. FTIR analysis confirmed functional groups carbohydrates, proteins, lipids DNA, viz., CO, COOH, NH, OH, CH OCH3. study's findings revealed enhancing molecules lowering biofilm-related infections improving efficacy antimicrobial treatments wastewater.

The discharged effluent of pharmaceutical industrial wastewater treatment plants (PIWWTPs) exhibits substantial environmental toxicity due to the intricate combination organic and inorganic pollutants. This study assessed phytotoxicity, genotoxicity, cytotoxicity untreated treated (PIWW). Most physicochemical parameters viz. COD, BOD, EC, sulfide, sulfate, nitrate, phosphate, grease, phenols, metal concentrations B, Cr, Ca, Cd, Cu, Zn, Pb, Hg, As in (UTW) were noted beyond permissible limit remained higher (TW). findings revealed that performance PIWWTP was woefully inadequate. GC-MS spectra UTW TW presence various contaminants. toxicological studies showed had a high degree which persisted even after as it inhibited seed germination Vigna radiata. up 70% 50% tested at concentration respectively. Genotoxicity measured by determining mitotic index chromosomal aberrations Allium cepa root apex grown PIWW. Compared negative control, dropped 85% 75% TW, Chromosomal also found cellular mass growing both TW. According findings, is unsafe for environment release PIWW has not been properly treated, this could pose serious risks health.
