Abstract Research suggests that a disproportionate number of female individuals being treated for an eating disorder (ED) also have autism spectrum (ASD). Alexithymia, or difficulty identifying and describing emotions, may mediate the relationship between ED ASD. In this study, we explored association autistic traits with symptoms alexithymia pathology, as well potential mediating role alexithymia. Two hundred twenty‐eight participants aged 18 older were recruited from online support platforms to complete anonymous survey via Qualtrics. The included three questionnaires: Toronto Alexithymia Scale‐20, Autism‐Spectrum Quotient (AQ), 13‐item Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire. More than half (54.8%) met clinical threshold on AQ. Participants positive screen AQ scale reported more (92.6% vs. 79.8% those without), B = 9.02, p < 0.001. A was associated significantly greater disordered symptoms, 4.26, 0.031. mediated association, × b 1.98, 0.05. results establish strong alexithymia, supporting previous data suggesting struggle identify emotions. Additionally, served mediator eating. Understanding help inform treatment who are struggling ED.

ABSTRACT Emotion recognition (ER) deficit in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is widely accepted, and a variety of research was done to assess the ER under various conditions intervention augment emotion mostly children with ASD. This scoping review attempted summarize diverse context ASD focus on facial expression databases used for intervention. PRISMA‐ScR guidelines were followed, 80 studies selected after search from electronic like Web Science PubMed predefined inclusion exclusion criteria. The trends indicate small sample size as group their matched counterparts. results show mixed findings; majority work indicates ASD, but certain stimuli conditions, performs well recognition. interventions showed promising increased ability also focused moderating factors study ER, such age, IQ, comorbidity, task paradigm, cultural factors. A subset intervention, it has been developed validated Western countries. Research gaps highlighted, recommendations future directions mentioned.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and functional neurological disorders (FND) are relatively common conditions, there has been recent interest in the overlap between them. Both conditions share core features of alexithymia, impaired interoception deficits attentional focus. To date, little is known about comorbidity rates ASD FND. This first meta-analysis qualitative synthesis on subject. We found that around 10% children presenting with seizures have a comorbid diagnosis. People more likely than neurotypical population to somatic disorders, also evidence higher for other FNDs such as motor disorders. Since FND comes risks unnecessary medical procedures investigations, it important recognize potential people an comorbidity.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to assess the frequency of autistic traits in patients with migraine and examine effect on migraine‐related disability, as well anxiety depressive symptoms, through mediating factors sensitivity sensory sensitivity. Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are two distinct clinical conditions marked by impaired processing. Both induce widespread alterations brain exhibit symptoms associated Research examining relationship between is sparse. Moreover, occurrence their headache‐related disability psychiatric comorbidities has not been thoroughly investigated. Methods cross‐sectional included 169 112 healthy controls. Data collection for was conducted from November 2022 May 2023. The Spectrum Quotient (AQ), Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Sensitivity Index, Dunn Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile were given participants. Headache Impact Test‐6 Visual Analogue Scale used evaluate quality life headache intensity migraine. Analyses examined how autism affects anxiety, Results While 35% found have (AQ ≥ 23), this rate be 17% In group, positively correlated sensitivity, symptoms. Although did a direct indirect effects significant (total = 0.16, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.08, 0.25], total 0.24, CI [0.14, 0.33]). addition, had Indirect also 0.14, 0.21]). Conclusions shows that more frequent among these comorbidities. Recognizing may crucial formulating methods mitigate enhance population. Plain Language Summary different affect traits. We do know much about each other, so we compared people likely traits, which can make depression worse; understanding treating could improve patients.

Alterations in sensory processing, a key component of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), have recently attracted increasing attention as they result peculiar responses to stimuli, possibly representing risk factor for the development somatic symptom (SSD). Contextually, other features also associated with ASD, such alexithymia, camouflaging and altered verbal, non-verbal communication, been suggested represent factors occurrence worsening symptomatology. The aim this work was review available literature about association between SSD spectrum. results highlighted not only higher prevalence autistic patients suffering from reported symptomatology subjects ASD but how co-occurrent symptoms exhibit more severe autism-linked From paper reviewed emerged many shared two conditions, sensitivity cognitive inflexibility, intolerance uncertainty, an increased experiencing stressful life events, which may provide explanation correlation reported. Even though studies on topic are still scant, evidence suggests importance further assessing disorders.

ABSTRACT Introduction Functional neurological disorder (FND) and autism spectrum (ASD) are two complex neuropsychiatric conditions that have been historically classified within psychiatric domains, resulting in a lack of extensive research, insufficient clinical recognition, persistent societal stigma. In recent years, there has an increasing recognition among professionals affected individuals their possible overlap. This review explores the potential mechanistic overlap between FND ASD, with particular attention to shared symptoms across sensory, motor, domains. Methods We conducted narrative analysis utilizing PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect databases from inception June 2024. The search employed specific MeSH terms related ASD FND. Given limited data availability, we included all relevant articles explored connections focusing on established findings theoretical hypotheses areas. Results Scientific evidence indicates may co‐occur more frequently than previously acknowledged notable overlaps presentations pathophysiology. Theoretical models applied such as Bayesian brain theory tripartite model autism, provide valuable insights into intersection these conditions. Although much current remains speculative, it underscores need for hypothesis‐driven research investigate further. Conclusion heterogeneous appear subset individuals, overlapping symptomatology possibly underlying mechanisms. hypothesis‐generating emphasizes further better understand links, ultimately aiming improve develop targeted interventions enhance quality life individuals.
