The human microbiome has a crucial role in the homeostasis and health of host. These microorganisms along with their genes are involved various processes, among these neurological signaling, maturation immune system, inhibition opportunistic pathogens. In this sense, it been shown that healthy ocular microbiota acts as barrier against entry pathogens, contributing to prevention infections. recent years, relationship suggested between dysbiosis development neurodegenerative diseases. patients glaucoma, observed surface, intraocular cavity, oral stomach, gut differ from those patients, which may suggest pathology development, although evidence remains limited. mechanisms disease remain largely unknown. For reason, present review aims show broad overview influence structure composition relate its diseases, especially glaucoma.

Introduction Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common complication of diabetes. Neuronal apoptosis, activated microglia, and microvascular changes are early features DR. The gut microbiota critical for maturation activation microglia in brain, DR patients exhibit dysbiosis. However, effect on retinal under normal or diabetic conditions still unclear. Methods Type 2 diabetes (T2D) was established male adult Brown Norway (BN) rats, they were treated with gavage broad-spectrum antibiotic (ABX) suspension. Retinal fundus fluorescein angiography performed to observe dynamic growth process leakage blood vessels. Retro-orbital injection FITC-Dextran blood-retinal barriers. After treatment ABX lasting more than 6 months, 16S RNA sequencing stool samples determine microbiome mass spectrometry used analyze metabolome changes. IBA1, IB4, Brn3 staining rats’ wholemount sections vessels number ganglion cells. Results Long-term (6 months) T2D caused dysbiosis increased average taxa numbers. We showed that antibiotics (ABXs) can reduce BN rats without T2D. Interestingly, months a loss cells (RGCs) significant vascular reduced alleviated RGC damage these rats. Conclusion Our data suggests gavage-induced alleviate long-term Targeting may be future therapeutic strategy management.

Understanding the impact of multimorbidity on having less than 20 natural teeth is crucial for safeguarding oral health older adults with multimorbidity. This study aimed to analyze association between and in Chinese adults. The data this analysis were obtained from Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), which covers 23 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions throughout China. survey includes information dental (such as dentition status), a variety chronic conditions, other sociological characteristics Having was used dependent variable, independent variable. A multivariable logistic regression model applied estimate teeth. total 3,640 included study, whom 58.27% (2121) identified results indicated that factors such age, education level, exercise, ability perform daily activities, frequency brushing teeth, BMI are associated Additionally, compared those without disease, odds ratio (OR) 1.32 (95% CI: 1.10, 1.57) only one OR two or more diseases 1.418 1.06, 1.89). highlights importance monitoring identifies an Oral care institutions should implement measures support development comprehensive public policies.

Abstract To evaluate ocular surface and eyelid modifications occurring in glaucomatous patients diagnosed with glaucoma therapy-related disease (GT-OSD) retinal comorbidities who previously underwent serial Intravitreal injections (IVIs) of aflibercept. Thirty-two eyes 32 a diagnosis GT-OSD concomitant diseases were enrolled two-center retrospective observational study. The main outcome measures were: Noninvasive tear film break-up time (NIBUT), Tear meniscus height (TMH), Bulbar redness score (BRS), fluorescein Break Up Time (TBUT), Corneal Fluorescence Staining (CFS), Schirmer test I (ST), inferior Meibomian Glands (MGs) dropout. Differences between treated fellow eye (TE, FE), considered. median number IVIs (aflibercept) TE was 4 (interquartile range (IQR) 3-6.50). Mean BRS significantly lower ( p = 0.011) TBUT higher 0.037) compared to FE. Despite CFS NIBUT did not differ eyes, their values showed marginal tendency for better results Serial aflibercept positively affected some features the GT-OSD, reducing conjunctival hyperemia improving stability. These preliminary could open new strategies management glaucoma, whether confirmed larger prospective studies.

Ageing is a natural process characterized by time-dependent decline of physiological integrity that compromises functionality and inevitably leads to death. This also quite relevant in major human pathologies, being primary risk factor neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases musculoskeletal disorders. Bearing this mind, it not surprising research aiming at improving health during has burst the last decades. Importantly, hallmarks ageing phenotype have been identified, knowledge for future studies towards identification putative pharmaceutical targets, enabling development preventive/therapeutic strategies improve longevity. In context, aromatic plants emerged as source potential bioactive volatile molecules, mainly monoterpenes, with many referring their anti-ageing potential. Nevertheless, an integrated review on current lacking, several approaches studying isolated or overall effect, without depicting possible mechanisms action. Herein, we aim provide updated systematization monoterpenes recently proposed hallmarks, highlight main action already well chemical entity–activity relations. By gathering categorizing available scattered information, identify important gaps could help pave way field.

Helicobacter pylori , a widely renowned bacterium, has recently gained attention owing to its potential impact on extragastric health. The emergence of research linking H. infection with metabolic syndrome (MetS)-related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) raised intriguing questions about the pathogenic linkage and translational implications for clinicians. MetS encompasses collection abnormalities that considerably elevate risk CVDs cerebrovascular diseases. Emerging evidence supports pathogenetic role MetS-related disorders through mechanisms implicating chronic smoldering inflammation, insulin resistance (IR), modulation immune responses. One aspect this possible connection is mast cells (MCs), subset representing innate system effector cells. They play fundamental in responses adaptive immunity. Activated MCs are commonly found patients CVD. Recent studies have also suggested may activate MCs, triggering release pro-inflammatory mediators contribute IR atherosclerosis. Understanding these intricate interactions at cellular level provides new insights into development therapeutic strategies targeting both activation. This review investigates current state regarding activation pathophysiology CVD, thereby opening up avenues related paving way innovative approaches prevention treatment clinical practice

Although glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, its pathogenesis incompletely understood, and intraocular pressure (IOP) the only modifiable risk factor to target disease. Several associations between gut microbiome glaucoma, including IOP, have been suggested. There growing evidence that interactions microbes on ocular surface, termed surface (OSM), tear proteins, collectively called proteome, may also play role in diseases such as glaucoma. This study aimed find characteristic features OSM proteins patients with The whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing 32 conjunctival swabs identified Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria dominant phyla cohort. species Corynebacterium mastitidis was found healthy controls, their microbiomes be enriched genes phospholipase pathway compared patients. Despite these minor differences OSM, showed an enrichment many associated immune system controls. In contrast this emphasizes potential involvement immunological processes These findings contribute design new therapeutic approaches targeting other diseases.
