The biotic and abiotic assets of the marine environment form “marine natural capital” embedded in global ocean. Marine capital provides flow ecosystem services” that are directly used or enjoyed by people providing benefits to human well-being. They include provisioning services (e.g., food), regulation maintenance carbon sequestration storage, coastal protection), cultural tourism recreational benefits). In recent decades, activities have increased pressures on ecosystems, often leading degradation biodiversity loss and, turn, affecting their ability provide humans. Therefore, effective management strategies crucial conservation healthy diverse ecosystems ensuring long-term generation goods services. Biophysical, economic, sociocultural assessments much needed convey importance resources managers policy makers supporting development implementation policies oriented for sustainable resources. addition, accounting service values can be usefully complemented mapping enable identification priority areas facilitate science–policy dialogue. Given this premise, study aims review trends evolution concept particular, scientific literature is explored focusing following main aspects: definition classification services; due anthropogenic pressures, alternative assessment, approaches; inclusion into decision-making processes.

Exploring the impacts of landscape pattern on ecosystem services (ESs) and their trade-offs could provide a new way to improve ESs without largely altering land use types. Using City Belt along Yellow River in Ningixa (CBYN) as case study, we quantified five critical (one provision service crop production, three regulating carbon sequestration, nutrient retention sand fixation, one cultural recreational opportunity) 1989–2019 through CASA model, InVEST model empirical equations. Then calculated metrics at class level Fragstats 4.3 across multiple scales each ES random forest analysis, self-organizing mapping analysis multivariable regression tree. The results suggested that 3 km is more suitable for analyzing CBYN. nonlinear relations between were fitted with adjusted R2 ranging from 0.26 0.51, indicating significant but limited ESs. Specially, landscape-level CONTAG, SHDI FRACMN have higher than class-level ones. Significant synergies existed among agricultural sequestration retention, except mountain region or lower fragmentation. Sand fixation has synergy former ESs, which would be altered situations diversity. Our direction management achieve high-quality development existing situation.

Balancing supply and demand in Nature-based Recreation (NbR) has the potential to yield co-benefits across multiple Ecosystem Services (ES), helping make tourism activities more sustainable. However, a comprehensive understanding of supply-demand mismatches NbR is challenging due complex interaction among various social, economic ecological factors. This paper investigates provide insights for informing spatial regional planning achieve sustainable tourism. To this end, uses wide range indicators such as biophysical attributes, accessibility social map assess demand, followed by application statistics analyse mismatches. Cluster analysis was performed based on relationship identify typology ES study area north Iran. The proposes an innovative recreation bundles with implications region marked hot spot generated five differing recreational opportunities. Bundles 1 2, characterized surplus substantial value, are suitable camping, hiking, climbing, birdwatching. In contrast, bundle 4 5 associated urban centres, experience deficit, making them less NbR. Bundle 3, mixture natural productive lands, plays important role maintaining balanced state. holds diverse forms tourism, including rural agricultural farm tours life experiences. Based findings, provides valuable proposing targeted strategies sustainably manage activities.

Human activities and environmental deterioration have resulted in land use transition (LUT), which seriously affects the ecosystem service value (ESV) of its region. Therefore, relevant policy measures are urgently needed. Nevertheless, research on relationships between LUTs ESVs from overall watershed scale is lacking. Thus, geo-information Tupu method was applied to analyze dynamic patterns LUT based data 1990, 2000, 2010, 2018 Yellow River Basin (YRB). Then, a newly revised services calculation utilized responses ESV LUTs. The results indicated that units were mainly mutual transformation grassland unused land, cultivated forestland, widely distributed upper middle reaches basin. spatial distribution concentrated, expansion’s trend also obvious. Moreover, conversion into construction lower During 1990–2018, total fluctuated increased (+10.47 × 108 USD) YRB. Thereinto, (45%) forestland (30%) made greatest contribution ESV. As for different reaches, upstream, but decreased midstream downstream. In terms rate, (12.477%) (9.856%) main types enhance YRB, while (−8.047%) (−7.358%) reduce Furthermore, range ecological appreciation zones scattered, impairment gradually expanded. These findings could theoretical support implications planning
