Data about self-perceived food choice (FC) changes and their determinants during COVID-19 lockdowns are limited. This study investigated how the Italian lockdown affected purchases (FP), occurrence of impulse buying (IB), household waste production (HFWP) determinants. A web-based cross-sectional survey was distributed in May 2020, collecting an opportunistic sample population. total 1865 (70% females) people were enrolled, median age 29 (IQR 16.0). Most increased overall FP (53.4%), consumption (43.4%), reduced HFWP (53.7%) halved prevalence IB (20.9%) compared to period before (42.5%). Baking ingredients, fresh vegetables, fruit chocolate had largest sales increase by individuals, while bakery products, fish salted snacks highly decreased. Increased associated with (adjOR 2.48, p < 0.001) inversely not having worked 0.71, = 0.003). Multivariable logistic regressions revealed low perceived dietary quality 2.22, 0.001), resulting at risk, according Emotional Overeating Questionnaire (EOQ, adjOR 1.68, decreased 0.73, 0.012). Reduced higher 2.27, negatively score WHO-5 Well-Being Index 0.72, 0.002). The FC behaviours, leading positive sustainable habits towards purchase consumption. Public health interventions needed keep these new effects avoid negative consequences case future lockdowns.

Aging is a gradual and irreversible pathophysiological process. It presents with declines in tissue cell functions significant increases the risks of various aging-related diseases, including neurodegenerative cardiovascular metabolic musculoskeletal immune system diseases. Although development modern medicine has promoted human health greatly extended life expectancy, aging society, variety chronic diseases have gradually become most important causes disability death elderly individuals. Current research on focuses elucidating how endogenous exogenous stresses (such as genomic instability, telomere dysfunction, epigenetic alterations, loss proteostasis, compromise autophagy, mitochondrial cellular senescence, stem exhaustion, altered intercellular communication, deregulated nutrient sensing) participate regulation aging. Furthermore, thorough pathogenesis to identify interventions that promote longevity caloric restriction, microbiota transplantation, nutritional intervention) clinical treatment methods for (depletion senescent cells, therapy, antioxidative anti-inflammatory treatments, hormone replacement therapy) could decrease incidence turn healthy longevity.

Agro-foodindustries generate colossal amounts of non-edible waste and by-products, easily accessible as raw materials for up-cycling active phytochemicals. Phenolic compounds are particularly relevant in this field given their abundance plant residues the market interest functionalities (e.g. natural antioxidant activity) part nutraceutical, cosmetological biomedical formulations. In "bench-to-bedside" achievements, sample extraction is essential because valorization benefits from matrix desorption solubilization targeted phytocompounds. Specifically, composition polarity extractant, optimal particle size sample:solvent ratio, well pH, pressure temperature strategic release stability mobilized species. On other hand, current green chemistry environmental rules require approaches that eliminate polluting consumables reduce energy needs. Thus, following pages provide an update on advanced technologies sustainable efficient recovery phenolics matrices.

Nutrition transition can be defined as shifts in food habits, and it is characterized by high-fat (chiefly saturated animal fat), hypercaloric salty consumption at the expense of dietary fibers, minerals vitamins. Western patterns serve a model for studying impact nutrition on civilization diseases, such obesity, which commonly associated with oxidative stress inflammation. In fact, reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-mediated inflammation obesity. NF-κB regulates gene expression several oxidant-responsive adipokines including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Moreover, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), plays pivotal role energy homeostasis modulation metabolic inflammation, downregulated IκB (IKK)-dependent TNF-α activation. On other hand, adherence to Mediterranean-style diet highly encouraged because its healthy pattern, includes antioxidant nutraceuticals polyphenols. Indeed, hydroxycinnamic derivatives, quercetin, resveratrol, oleuropein hydroxytyrosol, are well known their anti-inflammatory activities, exert anti-obesity proprieties. this review, we highlight most common polyphenols from Mediterranean foods molecular mechanisms that mediate obesity-related Hence, discuss effects these number signaling pathways. We note (MedDiet) de-regulate nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX) NF-κB-mediated stress, MedDiet also effective upregulating downstream effectors proteins, chiefly AMPK.

Epidemiologic studies suggest that dietary polyphenol intake is associated with a lower incidence of several non-communicable diseases. Although foods contain complex mixtures polyphenols, numerous factors can affect their content. Besides the well-known capability these molecules to act as antioxidants, they are able interact cell-signaling pathways, modulating gene expression, influencing activity transcription factors, and microRNAs. Here we deeply describe four polyphenols used nutritional supplements: quercetin, resveratrol, epigallocatechin gallate (ECGC), curcumin, summarizing current knowledge about them, spanning from sources epigenetic capabilities compounds on microRNA modulation.
