A fossil mysticete was discovered along the southwestern coast of Spain, occurring in a block detached from Neogene deposits exposed coastal cliff at locality Conil de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain). These range Pliocene to Pleistocene age and include shallow-marine, mixed carbonate–siliciclastic sediments, with whale being found occurrence stratigraphic unconformity marked by Thalassinoides burrows. 87Sr/86Sr analyses on oyster shells associated skeleton suggest an Early age, agreement lowermost unit cropping out study site. The studied cetacean specimen consists articulated, almost complete balaenopteroid field dorsal side up; contained upside-down block, however, it is preserved ventral disposition. Bones exhibit low degree preservation cortical bone tissue, which locally features shark bite marks Osedax traces as well abundant encrustations barnacles ostreids. Two teeth were also near skeleton. have their main histological features, even though they microcracks, dissolution, substitution Fe oxides, microborings. Sediment particles late diagenetic cements fill medullary cavities. We propose that carcass experienced refloating before sinking seafloor probably for some time eventually buried.

Abstract The intensity, extent, and ecosystem-level impact of bioturbation (i.e. Agronomic Revolution) at the dawn Phanerozoic is a hotly debated issue. Middle Cambrian fan-delta deposits in southwestern Saskatchewan provide insights into paleoenvironmental extent Revolution marginal-marine environments. studied reveal that several environmental stressors had direct on trace-fossil distribution intensities fan deltas. Basal proximal subaerial are characterized by very coarse grain size absence bioturbation. Mid-fan fan-toe were formed under subaqueous conditions rapid events between sedimentation episodes when ameliorated, providing evidence significant landward expansion Revolution. Transgressive marine accumulated after abandonment system display high levels reflecting stable favored endobenthic colonization. presence intense both delta transgressive provides further support to view biogenic mixing high, provided reached. Our study underscores importance evaluating sedimentary facies changes assess factors prior making evolutionary inferences.

Abstract A fragmentary mandible from the early Pliocene of Vera Basin is here investigated to clarify its taxonomic position. The studied specimen assigned Pliorhinus megarhinus , documented in Europe latest Miocene mid-Pliocene. morphometrical comparison reveals that this taxon larger than Stephanorhinus etruscus and S. jeanvireti but overlaps with Dihoplus schleiermacheri . P. D. differ some characters lower molars, such as length metalophid shape trigonid occlusal view, thus allowing new considerations on Spanish rhinocerotine record. According results obtained, three species are at least Span during Pliocene: miguelcrusafonti presence has be verified confirmed by further evidence. a relict Spain discarded.

Seismic, core, drilling, logging, and thin-section data are considered to analyze the reservoir diversity in east, middle, west fan of Liushagang Formation steep-slope zone Weixinan Sag, Beibuwan Basin. Three factors primarily affect differences for systems: (1) Sedimentary mostly control scales characteristics drainage system microfacies. Massive high-quality reservoirs have shallow burial depths. Channel development sediment supply favor formation these reservoirs. The sedimentary microfacies suggest delta plain distributary channels. (2) Lithofacies types evolution. diagenesis is weak, a weak compaction–cementation diagenetic facies medium compaction–dissolution were developed. (3) Sandstone thickness oil-bearing properties average porosity permeability large, critical sandstone small, capacity high. Furthermore, prediction models summarized as nearshore subaqueous models. model plain, lithology medium–coarse sandstone. organic acid + meteoric freshwater two-stage dissolution developed, various dissolved pores formed, Type I middle fan, medium–fine Only dissolution, pores, I–II Regarding models, large-scale, channel Weak evolution, good physical properties, thick sandstone, developed reservoir. study northern was undertaken order guide predictions. Abstract Lithospheric delamination involves short-lived crustal and surface responses, alkaline magmatism, high heat flow extension. In the Western Mediterranean, is thought to have triggered uplift at origin of Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC). This scenario questioned by insufficient temporal resolution relative other proposed mechanisms that include shortening slab detachment. Here, we report new U-Pb ages clumped isotope analyses from calcite veins formed in an intramontane basin eastern Betics. They reveal a fluid event 8.5 5 Ma linked extension retreating delamination.
