A
fossil
mysticete
was
discovered
along
the
southwestern
coast
of
Spain,
occurring
in
a
block
detached
from
Neogene
deposits
exposed
coastal
cliff
at
locality
Conil
de
la
Frontera
(Cádiz,
Spain).
These
range
Pliocene
to
Pleistocene
age
and
include
shallow-marine,
mixed
carbonate–siliciclastic
sediments,
with
whale
being
found
occurrence
stratigraphic
unconformity
marked
by
Thalassinoides
burrows.
87Sr/86Sr
analyses
on
oyster
shells
associated
skeleton
suggest
an
Early
age,
agreement
lowermost
unit
cropping
out
study
site.
The
studied
cetacean
specimen
consists
articulated,
almost
complete
balaenopteroid
field
dorsal
side
up;
contained
upside-down
block,
however,
it
is
preserved
ventral
disposition.
