Spray-drying is a popular and well-known "drying tool" for engineers. This perspective highlights that, beyond this application, spray-drying very interesting powerful tool materials chemists to enable the design of multifunctional hybrid materials. Nanomaterials, due to their unique structural and functional features, are widely investigated for potential applications in a wide range of industrial sectors. In this context, protein-based nanoparticles, given proteins’ abundance, non-toxicity, stability, offer promising sustainable methodology encapsulation protection, can be used engineered nanocarriers that capable releasing active compounds on demand. Zein is plant-based protein extracted from corn, it biocompatible, biodegradable, amphiphilic. Several approaches technologies currently involved zein-based nanoparticle preparation, such as antisolvent precipitation, spray drying, supercritical processes, coacervation, emulsion procedures. Thanks peculiar characteristics, nanoparticles targeted application fields drug delivery, bioimaging, or soft tissue engineering, reported by others. The main goal review investigate the use different advanced including food/food packaging, cosmetics, agriculture, which attracting researchers’ efforts, exploit future development zein NPs field cultural heritage, still relatively unexplored. Pulmonary inflammations such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis are widespread can be fatal, especially when they characterized by abnormal mucus accumulation. Inhaled corticosteroids commonly used for lung despite their considerable side effects. By utilizing particle engineering techniques, a combined dry powder inhaler (DPI) comprising nanosized ketoprofen-embedded mannitol-coated microparticles was developed. A nanoembedded microparticle system means novel advance in delivery enhancing local deposition while avoiding clearance mechanisms. Ketoprofen, poorly water-soluble anti-inflammatory drug, dispersed the stabilizer solution then homogenized ultraturrax. Following this, ketoprofen-containing nanosuspension produced wet-media milling. Furthermore, co-spray drying conducted with L-leucine (dispersity enhancer) mannitol (coating mucuactive agent). Particle size, morphology, dissolution, permeation, viscosity, vitro silico deposition, cytotoxicity, effect were investigated. The size of ~230 nm. SEM images spray-dried displayed wrinkled, coated, nearly spherical particles final ~2 µm (nano-in-micro), which is optimal delivery. mannitol-containing samples decreased viscosity 10% mucin solution. results mass median aerodynamic diameter (2.4-4.5 µm), fine fraction (56-71%), permeation (five-fold enhancement), dissolution (80% release 5 min) confirmed that ideal inhalation. All showed significant IL-6 on LPS-treated U937 cell line low cytotoxicity. Hence, developing an innovative DPI ketoprofen employing nano-in-micro approach potential treatment inflammations.
