The role of probiotic supplementation in type 2 diabetes (T2D) treatment is controversial. present study aimed to assess the effects a multi-strain supplement (LactoLevureR (containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, plantarum, Bifidobacterium lactis, and Saccharomyces boulardii)) over 6 months, primarily on glycemic control as well lipid levels alterations gut microbiome, among individuals with T2D residing Greece. A total 91 adults (mean age [±SD] 65.12 ± 10.92 years, 62.6% males) were randomized receive or matching placebo capsule, once daily, for months. Blood chemistries anthropometric parameters conducted every 3 stool samples collected at baseline Significant reductions HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, cholesterol observed participants treated (n = 46) compared controls 45), even after adjustment greater decrease adiposity (waist circumference). Although there no statistically significant differences diversity microbiome (α β diversity), administration probiotics did influence several genera, metabolites, key enzymes associated diabetes. Overall, LactoLevureR 6-month period was well-tolerated had positive impact metabolic parameters, alongside improvements indices adiposity.

The gut microbiome, a complex assembly of microorganisms, significantly impacts human health by influencing nutrient absorption, the immune system, and disease response. These microorganisms form dynamic ecosystem that is critical to maintaining overall well-being. Prebiotics probiotics are pivotal in regulating microbiota composition. nourish beneficial bacteria promote their growth, whereas help maintain balance within microbiome. This intricate extends several aspects health, including integrity barrier, responses, producing metabolites crucial for metabolic health. Dysbiosis, or an imbalance microbiota, has been linked disorders such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease. Impaired barrier function, endotoxemia, low-grade inflammation associated with toll-like receptors proinflammatory pathways. Short-chain fatty acids derived from microbial fermentation modulate anti-inflammatory system positively influence probiotics, especially Lactobacillus Bifidobacterium strains, may improve outcomes, glycemic control diabetes. It important consider strain-specific effects study variability when interpreting these findings, highlighting need further research optimize therapeutic potential. aim this report therefore review role prebiotics on microbiome role, integrating broad understanding physiological mechanisms clinical perspective.

Abstract Background Abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism contribute to the progression exacerbation of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Fish oil probiotics are dietary supplements that have potential improve metabolism. However, their efficacy remains unclear T2DM patients. Methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library were retrieved collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on fish or probiotic supplementation patients from database inception December 13, 2023. Primary outcome indicators encompassed glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) blood profile (triglyceride (TG) total cholesterol (TC). Secondary included inflammatory markers such as tumor necrosis factor -α (TNF-α) adipocytokine (including leptin adiponectin). The R software was used statistical analysis, GraphPad Prism figure rendering. Results A 60 RCTs involving 3845 analysis. results showed ( Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Propionibacterium, etc . ) more effective reducing HOMA-IR than (Surca = 0.935). Bifidobacterium demonstrated highest HbA1c levels 0.963). Regarding metabolism, superior lowering TG TC values 0.978 0.902, respectively). Furthermore, outperformed TNF-α 0.839) 0.712), increasing adiponectin 0.742). Node-splitting analysis good consistency (P > 0.05 direct, indirect, network comparison across various interventions). Conclusions In patients, regulating Probiotics particularly; specifically, higher glucose.
