Higher education institutions (HEIs), based on learning, innovation, and research, can support the progress of civil society. Many HEIs are implementing sustainability practices projects to counteract climate change, often involving youth participation. The present study aimed at identifying how sustainable communities may be fostered in a university setting. To that end, questionnaire was administered engineering students start end course energy issues, assessing their perceptions using multi-criteria decision analysis. results showed placed greater value course. Additionally, findings highlight implementation tackling real problems useful for disseminating knowledge practices. main implications this indicate academia lay six foundational pillars: education, (and resource) independence, subsidies green economy, initiatives reducing carbon footprint, community development, new professional opportunities.

Abstract While sustainability is at the centre of many government agendas, there a great risk entrusting strategic decisions to those lacking in expertise. It therefore necessary ensure that universities are green engines sustainable communities. The present study administered questionnaire students enrolled Management Engineering programme an Italian university, collect their perceptions and opinions on energy issues. Students completed twice: once prior beginning end term. results showed held more attitudes term, perceived education youth confidence as building blocks future society. They also observed decarbonisation system national independence would require significant development renewable systems interventions promote efficiency. In addition, they recognised subsidies for production, communities, differentiated waste collection professional skills training crucial. university should support younger generations by encouraging student engagement real-world projects long-term, structured teacher–student relationships.

Inland areas are suffering from depopulation and a lack of services, with many citizens deciding to move the city. Smart cities require decentralised collective energy model in form renewable communities (RECs). This work aims propose an economic analysis residential photovoltaic systems within REC according different incentive market scenarios. For this scope, Net Present Value (NPV) is used both baseline alternative scenarios showing very good profitability, confirmed by sensitivity, scenario risk analysis. It therefore evident how avoided cost bill has decisive impact on result amplified virtuous behaviour consumption synchronous production phase. Subsequent analyses concern profits obtained divided among prosumers it shown that revenues shared partial profile may be right compromise. In order consider more realistic case additional consumer analysed REC. The proposed show interesting policy implications: subsidies key factors for sustainable based green consumption.

The ecological transition in the transport sector is a major challenge to tackle environmental pollution, and European legislation will mandate zero-emission new cars from 2035. To reduce impact of petrol diesel vehicles, much emphasis being placed on potential use synthetic fuels, including electrofuels (e-fuels). This research aims examine levelised cost (LCO) analysis e-fuel production where energy source renewable. used process expected come photovoltaic plant other steps required produce e-fuel: direct air capture, electrolysis Fischer-Tropsch process. results showed that LCOe-fuel baseline scenario around 3.1 €/l, this value mainly influenced by component followed hydrogen one. Sensitivity, risk analyses are also conducted evaluate alternative scenarios, it emerges 84% cases, ranges between 2.8 €/l 3.4 €/l. findings show current not competitive with fossil yet development e-fuels supports protection. concept pragmatic sustainability, incentive policies, technology development, industrial symbiosis, economies scale learning can supporting decarbonization sector.

Abstract Renewable energy valleys (REVs) represent a transformative concept poised to reshape global landscapes. These comprehensive ecosystems transition regions from conventional sources sustainable, self-reliant hubs for renewable generation, distribution, and consumption. At their core, REVs integrate advanced information communication technology (ICT), interoperable digital solutions, social innovation processes, economically viable business models. They offer vision of decentralized, low-carbon landscapes accessible all, capable meeting local demands year-round by harnessing multiple (RES) leveraging storage technologies. This paper provides an overview the key components objectives REVs, including integration through ICT technologies open solutions that enable seamless management RES within REV. The aspect via REV’s active communities is also examined, encouraging participation in co-design, implementation, benefit-sharing solutions. In addition, viability sustainable models central REV framework proposed, ensuring affordability accessibility all stakeholders. presents case study Crete, showcasing how idea can work real life. Crete utilizes various become energy-independent, lower carbon emissions, enhance system resilience. Advanced are employed ensure supply demand balance Situated on picturesque island Greece, it pioneering establishment Energy Valley ‘Living Lab’ (REV-Lab), integrating Community Labs (CELs) as hubs. initiative exemplifies model, striving create digitalized, distributed, landscape residents throughout year.

The term "prosumers" coined by Toffler, relates to those customers who also engage in the co-creation of products, which they only partly consume, and whose balance is made available a broader group. But even though role prosumers increasingly relevant as more comprehensive number people are engaging production products be shared others, there need for studies that aim at identifying how widespread are, concrete contribution providing some key area such as, energy, energy generation distribution. Based on address this research gap, paper reports study prosumer behaviour sustainable development (SD) context, with focus sector. deploys mixed-methods approach entails bibliometric analysis from sustainability perspective - gain better understanding topic -, quantitative prosumers' field renewable involving respondents 44 countries, set case studies, supported literature, illustrates current trends. novelty resides fact it explores an SD context across many countries critical use, outlining drivers positive further information needs.

In this article, we analyze the role of social capital in formation sustainable energy communities. Specifically, study impact different dimensions (i.e., structural, relational, cognitive) determining willingness to participate an community. Our survey data suggest that contexts contribute development communities, via (at least) two channels: (i) a family path, with individual perspectives showing partial correlation those at least one relative, and (ii) channel, higher trust greater interaction neighbors favoring propensity The coordination required for communities is determined by quality interactions, spread virtuous behavior not only economic policies incentives), but also forward-looking local aggregation creation high-quality capital. Thus, actions interactions can solving global climate change challenges.

Abstract The photovoltaic (PV) system has a very significant growing global trend and its role is essential in combating climate change. However, intermittent nature requires integration with battery energy storage (BES). This work proposes an economic analysis based on net present value (NPV) for integrated PV + BES mature market (Italy). analyses are applied to different policy (used both BES) (purchase price, selling price) contexts. Results show that the NPV(PV) ranges from 1061 7426 €/kW. identifies conditions under which affordable. required increase self‐consumption varies 14%–35% range. purchase price percentage of energy‐self‐consumption play crucial profitability assessment system. Incentive policies subsidized tax deductions subsidies produced self‐consumed can enable more sustainable future residential sector. suggests mix choices: (i) deduction larger than 50% bonus plants; (ii) also BESs but at lower (iii) encouraging recycling industry.
