Antibiotic resistance represents a global health concern. Soil, water, livestock and plant foods are directly or indirectly exposed to antibiotics due their agricultural use contamination. This selective pressure has acted synergistically bacterial competition in nature breed antibiotic-resistant (AR) bacteria. Research over the past few decades focused on emergence of AR pathogens food products that can cause disease outbreaks spread antibiotic genes (ARGs), but One Health approaches have lately expanded focus include commensal bacteria as ARG donors. Despite attempts national international authorities developed developing countries reduce over-prescription humans growth promoters, flow transmission from environment clinic (and vice-versa) is increasing. review focuses mechanisms hotspots contamination resulting subsequent ARGs. It follows ARGs farm animal provides examples impact clinical settings. Understudied emerging selection determinants, such heavy metal biocide contamination, also discussed here.

The increasing consumption of azole antifungal agents leads to their uncontrolled release into the environment. Therefore, it is crucial remove residues from natural ecosystems. This study aimed examine biological and chemical degradation four typical fungicides: fluconazole (Fc), clotrimazole (Cl), climbazole (Cb), epoxiconazole (Ep). biodegradation was investigated using activated sludge two novel Gram-negative bacterial strains. experiments assess efficiency fungicides removal through UV treatment, Fenton reaction, a combination these methods. Transformation products Cb, Ep, Cl photocatalytic were identified by mass spectrometry. In addition, AlamarBlue® Assay MTT allowed careful evaluation toxicity derivatives transformation towards newly isolated strains, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia AsPCl2.3 Pseudomonas monteilii LB2. Among all fungicides, Cb most susceptible while Fc, basically resistant biodegradation. Ep showed significant biosorption on sludge. Under optimized photolysis conditions, Cl, significantly higher than that reaction supported UV-irradiation offered best results elimination. After 1 min experiment, almost completely removed rates reached an average 60%. proposed main route during includes halogen atoms substitution hydroxyl moieties. final product imidazole or triazole. Azole differently affected metabolic activity bacteria. intermediates lower parent compounds. findings help better understand environmental impact degradation, toxicity. They also stress need for reducing
