Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been reported to be the main pharmaceutical class accumulated in seafood. Among them, ibuprofen (IBU) is of special concern as it used worldwide treat common pain, does not require a medical prescription, often taken high daily dose, and has cause potential adverse effects on aquatic organisms. IBU highly transformed into hydroxy- carboxy-metabolites and/or degradation products generated only after its administration but also during wastewater treatment or environment. These compounds can present environment at higher concentrations than toxicity. In this work, low-cost affordable routine analytical method was developed validated for first-time determination metabolites mussels. The based ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), clean-up by dispersive solid-phase (d-SPE) liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Although the presence of pharmaceuticals in environment is an issue widely addressed research over past two decades, still little known about their transformation products. However, there are indications that some these chemicals may be equally or even more harmful than parent compounds. Diclofenac (DCF) among most commonly detected aquatic environment, but potential effects its metabolites on organisms poorly understood. Therefore, present study aimed to evaluate and compare toxicity DCF metabolite, 4-hydroxy diclofenac (4-OH DCF), mussels using a multi-biomarker approach. Mytilus trossulus were exposed 4-OH at 68.22 20.85 μg/L (measured concentrations day 0), respectively, for 7 days. Diclofenac is an important pharmaceutical present in the water cycle of wastewater treatment and one most distributed drugs aquatic ecosystems. Despite great interest fate diclofenac freshwaters, effects environmentally relevant concentrations on invertebrates are still unclear. Two species freshwater invertebrates, amphipod Gmelinoides fasciatus bivalve mollusk Unio pictorum, were exposed to 0.001-2 μg/L (environmentally levels) for 96 h. A set biological endpoints (survival, fecundity, embryo abnormalities, respiration heart rates, heat tolerance, cardiac stress tolerance) estimated invertebrates. Abstract Based on the synergistic action of hydrogen bond and electrostatic interaction, provided by methacrylic acid 2‐aminoethyl ester hydrochloride (FM2), respectively, novel molecularly imprinted polymers (SA‐MIPs) were designed to improve its selective recognition ability. Diclofenac sodium (DFC) was chosen as template molecule this study. The interaction their sites between two functional monomers templates confirmed nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Because imprinting factor (IF) SA‐MIPs (IF = 2.26) is superior corresponding monofunctional monomer materials 1.52, 1.20) using with an only single type 1.54, 1.75). results adsorption experiments indicate that ability significantly better than other four MIPs, difference in selectivity coefficient for methyl orange largest MIPs FM2, which about 70 times. In addition, x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy used verify template. This work explanation mechanism at molecular level will be helpful rational design higher selectivity. Besides, have good performance (37.75 mg/g) DFC aqueous solutions, could potential effective removal aquatic environment.

Diclofenac (DIC) is one of the most widely consumed drugs in world, and its presence environment as well potential effects on organisms are subject numerous recent scientific works. However, it becoming clear that risk posed by pharmaceuticals needs to be viewed more broadly their derivatives should also considered. In fact, already published results confirm transformation products NSAIDs including DIC may cause a variety potentially negative marine organisms, sometimes showing increased biological activity. To date, however, little known about bioconcentration metabolites role sex this process. Therefore, present study for first time evaluates sex-related differences estimates metabolite, 4-OH DIC, Mytilus trossulus tissues. experiment lasting 7 days, mussels were exposed at concentrations 68.22 20.85 μg/L, respectively. Our confirms can taken up not only native form, but metabolised further. Furthermore, work, mass balance was performed stability both studied compounds under experimental conditions analysed. Obtained suggest stable than derivative tested conditions, further analyses environmental fate these necessary.
