Benzophenone (BP-3) is an organic compound that a common ingredient in lotions, conditioners, and other personal care products, which helps protect against ultraviolet radiation. This study investigated the effect of BP-3 on structure integument gills, as well activities superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalase (CAT) gills Danio rerio. Fish were exposed to different concentrations (7, 70, 700 µg L-1) for 7 14 d. For histological analysis fish fixed Bouin liquid processed according standard histologic procedures, tissue section slices stained histochemical methods. caused damage morphological alterations gills; however, showed no or alterations. Furthermore, there was observed correlation between concentration exposure period gill alterations, these did not occur linear manner. The removed evaluate antioxidant defense; this, CAT SOD measured, reduction activity noted, whereas significantly affected.

Plastic additives that maintain integrity have been extensively studied for potential toxicity to fish; however, chemicals protect polymers from (artificial) UV degradation are less studied. Benzotriazole stabilizers (BUVSs) the most widely used in plastics and often sunscreens, cosmetics, paint, food packaging. BUVSs can negatively affect aquatic wildlife when released into environment via plastic degradation. In this review, we summarize distribution of globally discuss neurotoxicological endpoints measured fish understand how these neurological health teleost fishes. detected environments at concentrations ranging 0.05 up 99,200 ng/L. Studies show behavioral responses acetylcholinesterase activity, indicators neurotoxicity. Our computational analysis using transcriptome data suggests certain pathways associated with neurodegeneration responsive exposure BUVSs, like “Complement Activation Alzheimer’s Disease”. Based on our identify some research needs future investigations: (1) molecular studies central nervous system define precise mechanisms neurotoxicity; (2) a wider range tests assessing aberrant behaviors given activity larval zebrafish; (3) histopathology accompany biochemical analyses. These expected enhance understanding neurotoxicity benzotriazoles other additives.

Abstract This study investigated chronic and repeated sleep deprivation (RSD)-induced neuronal changes in hexosamine biosynthetic pathway/ O -linked N-acetylglucosamine (HBP/ -GlcNAc) cycling of glucose metabolism further explored the role altered -GlcNAc promoting neurodegeneration using an adult zebrafish model. RSD-triggered degenerative brain led to impairment memory, neuroinflammation amyloid beta (Aβ) accumulation. Metabolite profiling RSD revealed a significant decrease glucose, indicating potential association between RSD-induced dysregulated metabolism. While had no impact on overall -GlcNAcylation levels hippocampus region, were observed two -GlcNAcylation-regulating enzymes, specifically, transferase (OGT) increase -GlcNAcase (OGA). Glucosamine (GlcN) treatment induced recovery OGT level that was decreased group. In addition, GlcN reversed cognitive by RSD. reduced attenuated Aβ accumulation Repeated with diazo-5-oxo-l-norleucine (DON), inhibitor HBP metabolism, resulted dysfunction, accumulation, similar effects The pathological DON restored normal upon GlcN. Both SD DON-treated groups exhibited common glutamate γ-aminobutyric acid compared control Overexpression rescued dysfunction neurodegeneration. precursor protein β-secretase activity, which treatment. Based collective findings, we propose dysregulation plays crucial RSD-mediated progression Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Targeting this pathway may, therefore, offer effective regulatory approach for sleep-associated neurodegenerative disorders.

The benzophenone (BP) family, including oxybenzone (BP-3), a prevalent sunscreen ingredient and environmental contaminant, has raised concerns since the year 2005. This study investigated toxicity in zebrafish (Danio rerio) eleutheroembryos brine shrimp (Artemia salina) nauplii, focusing on LC50 developmental impacts. Zebrafish embryos (0.100–1.50 mg/L BP-3, 96 h) A. salina (0.100–5.00 48 were tested with ultrasound-assisted emulsified liquid-phase microextraction (UA-ELPME) used for tissue analysis. HPLC-DAD determined BP-3 concentrations (highest: 0.74 ± 0.13 mg/L). Although no significant embryo mortality or hatching changes occurred, effects evident. Lethal (A. at 24 h = 3.19 2.02 mg/L; D. rerio 4.19 3.60 mg/L), malformations indicating potential teratogenic effects. displayed intestinal tract alterations exhibited pericardial edema spinal deformities. These findings highlight oxybenzone’s risks, posing threats to species ecosystem health.

Arsenic, a common metal-like substance, has been demonstrated to pose potential health hazards and induce behavioral changes in humans rodents. However, the chronic neurotoxic effects of arsenic on aquatic animals are still not fully understood. This study aimed investigate exposure adult zebrafish by subjecting 3-month-old three different sodium arsenite water concentrations: 0 μg/L (control group), 50 μg/L, 500 over period 30 days. To assess risk associated with environment, behavior analysis, transmission electron microscopy techniques, quantitative real-time PCR were employed. The was evaluated using six distinct tests: mirror biting test, shoaling novel tank social preference recognition T maze. Following tests, brains dissected collected for ultrastructural examination gene expression analysis. results revealed that led significant reduction aggression, cohesion, ability, cognition learning, memory capacity zebrafish. Furthermore, ultrastructure genes regulating brain adversely affected exposure.
