This study explores the relationships between digital economy, R&D investment, and carbon emissions, as well mediating role of financial technology (fintech). Despite a growing body research, impact economy on emissions remains contested, partly due to limited scope inconsistent measures in existing studies. Additionally, while is pivotal driver modern development, its potential quadratic effects China remain unexplored. By employing comprehensive Digital Economy Index analyzing panel data from 2011 2020 across Chinese regions, this provides new insights into how digitalization innovation influence emissions. The findings reveal positive linear correlation CO2 over last decade. Moreover, investments exhibit an inverse U-shaped relationship with acting effective factor reducing Notably, turning point occurs Quadrant I, where most regions are clustered, indicating substantial efficiency gains early-stage their significant enhance sustainable development. As industrial economic growth accelerates in China, it becomes critically significant to equilibrate the dynamics between energy use efficiency and agglomeration enhance economy's sustainable progression. Based on data of 280 cities above prefecture level China covering period from 2010 2020, this study provides a comprehensive measurement levels China. Meanwhile, based system theory ideas, coupled coordination model is constructed measure characteristics agglomeration.
