Urban areas encompass essential social functions that are fundamental for the development and quality of life. This research explores why concept 15-minute city, while commendable in its aspirations, might fall short effectively mitigating urban inequalities, especially within densely populated segregated developing cities. Using Bogotá (Colombia) as a case study, this paper advocates develops standardized index based on availability walking distance. also integrates individual preferences, geographical attributes, pedestrian infrastructure. Doing so provides more comprehensive understanding factors influencing proximity, accommodating diverse needs various identities. Considering preferences towards proximity is critical to comprehend determinants accessibility, encompassing relevance sociodemographic characteristics. Although several worldwide may meet broad interpretation city concept, our reveals significant disparities among population segments regarding access services their prioritization. Our study found grocery stores healthcare facilities hold paramount importance across all segments. Furthermore, wealthy exhibit heightened preference retail shops commercial services. In contrast, low-income has considerably greater facilities. aims cast light upon structural inherent areas, thereby unveiling inequalities concept's capacity diagnose mitigate inequalities. The promotion all-encompassing inclusive measurement approach posited contribution advancement comprehension effective implementation heterogeneous landscapes.

This paper aims to evaluate the accessibility urban mobility services with high spatial resolution. The methodology identifies percentage of population living within walking distance different public transport and shared systems. motivation for this study stems from importance understanding improving sustainable mobility, as well need effectiveness transportation infrastructure. involved creating buffers each station following road network according design identify areas a 5-min walk, then calculating affected by age range these zones ensure equity. method determined access available services: bike renting, bus, intercity metro, taxi, tram train. application Valencia case underscores overall strong services. main results indicate 99.98% total city. percentages specific vary, bus renting showing accessibility, while train exhibit lower rates. The “15-minute city” (15minC) model has gained global attention as a framework for promoting walkability and sustainable urban mobility. While its adoption grown, challenges remain in adapting the to diverse contexts worldwide. This paper critically examines 15minC model, theoretical limitations, need more context- user-based approaches ensure mobility well-being outcomes across varying morphological, climatic, cultural settings. article then introduces concept of CityTime, which redefines proximity borderless adaptable, measuring minutes needed walk customizable ecosystems functions. Using GIS-based approach, it evaluates accessibility points interest (POIs) balance their quantitative (proximity) qualitative (diversity) distribution, proposing new metrics. approach is tested Dakar, Rio de Janeiro, Milan—cities that vary significantly size, density, geographic location, representing both Global North South. Within each city, three distinct areas are selected using multidimensional clustering method based on POI distributions. The intersection of environmental justice and urban accessibility presents a critical challenge in sustainable city planning. While the “15-minute city” concept has emerged as prominent framework for promoting walkable neighborhoods, its implications exposure inequalities remain underexplored. This study introduces an innovative methodology assessing air pollution disparities within context 15-minute activity zones New York City. By integrating street-level PM2.5 predictions with spatial network analysis, this research evaluates patterns that more accurately reflect residents’ daily mobility experiences. results reveal significant socioeconomic racial exposure, lower-income areas Black communities experiencing consistently higher levels their walking ranges. A borough-level analysis further underscores influence localized development demographic distributions on outcomes. comparative demonstrates traditional census tract-based approaches may underestimate these by failing to account actual pedestrian patterns.
