Sleep is a modifiable behavior that can be targeted in interventions aimed at promoting healthy aging. This study aims to (i) identify the sleep duration trend US adults; (ii) investigate relationship between and phenotypic age; (iii) explore role of exercise this relationship. Phenotypic age as novel index was calculated according biomarkers collected from adults based on National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). information self-reported by participants discerned through individual interviews. The principal analytical method employed weighted multivariable linear regression modeling, which accommodated for complex multi-stage sampling design. potential non-linear explored using restricted cubic spline (RCS) model. Furthermore, subgroup analyses evaluated effects sociodemographic lifestyle factors primary outcomes. A total 13,569 were finally included in, thereby resulting population 78,880,615. An examination temporal trends revealed declining proportion individuals with insufficient markedly deficient time since 2015-2016 cycle. Taken normal group reference, extreme short [β (95% CI) 0.582 (0.018, 1.146), p = 0.044] long 0.694 (0.186, 1.203), 0.010] both positively associated fully adjusted According dose-response age, benefit regular activity, whereas more tended have higher age. There an inverted U-shaped durations represents important step forward our understanding By shedding light topic providing practical recommendations habits, researchers help live longer, healthier, fulfilling lives.

Participants were 96 generally healthy Japanese men women aged between 20 70 years contributing 421,045 30-s epochs. scoring was performed according to American Academy Medicine criteria. Each participant could contribute a maximum three (PSG) nights. Within-participant means created for each sleep measure paired t-tests used compare equivalent measures obtained from PSG Rings (non-dominant dominant hand). Several studies have found that sleep deprivation (SD) can lead to neuronal ferroptosis and affect hippocampal function. However, there are currently no effective interventions. Vitamin B6 is a co-factor for key enzymes in the transsulfuration pathway which critical maintaining cell growth presence of cysteine deprivation. The results showed SD inhibited cystine-glutamate antiporter light chain subunit xCT protein expression caused deficiency, reduced synthesis glutathione (GSH) trigger ferroptosis. Nissl staining further revealed significant loss shrinkage CA1 CA3 regions hippocampus mice. Typical ferroptotic indicators characterized by lipid peroxidation iron accumulation were after As expected, vitamin could alleviate upregulating cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) pathway, thereby replenishing intracellular deficient GSH restoring GPX4. Similar anti-ferroptotic effects demonstrated HT-22 cells treated with activator erastin. Furthermore, had inhibitory effect on erastin-induced CBS-knockout HT22 cells. Our findings suggested chronic disrupting cyst(e)ine/GSH/GPX4 axis. alleviated deprivation-induced enhancing CBS pathway.

Hypertension is a primary risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. A number of studies have suggested that sleep duration play an important role in the development hypertension. young middle-aged individuals characterized by low awareness treatment rates, increasing adverse events. To further elucidate relationship between hypertension individuals, we conducted meta-analysis. This study searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library from January 2003 to November 5, 2023. Data analysis was performed using STATA 17. Using Q test I2-statistic, heterogeneity included conducted. Potential small-sample effects were evaluated based on symmetry funnel plots, publication bias Egger's test. 16 studies, which revealed both long (OR, 1.10; 95 % CI, 1.05-1.15) short (RR: 1.10, CI: 1.05 1.15) associated with particularly Asian populations. meta-analysis association (short [<7 h] [≥9 h]) adults, Sleep behavior can be modified. Abstract: The regularity of sleep/wake patterns across multiple days is emerging as an important determinant health. However, the association between sleep and health outcomes in aging population not well understood. current systematic review identified 22 publications that examined relationship selected outcomes: cardiovascular risk, cognitive impairment, mortality. All studies were published after 2010, reflecting a growing research interest daily regularity. Low was consistently associated with higher risk elevated all-cause Results on impairment are mixed, inconsistency likely attributed to small sample sizes differences assessment. Overall, carries information about should be included future collect measures. Gaps literature methodological shortcomings discussed. Keywords: regularity, Aging, health, mortality

Evidence-based guidelines recommend that adults should sleep 7-9 h/night for optimal health and function. This study used noninvasive, multinight, objective monitoring to determine average duration variability in a large global community sample, how often participants met the recommended range. Data were analyzed from registered users of Withings under-mattress Sleep Analyzer (predominantly located Europe North America) who had ≥28 nights recordings, averaging ≥4 per week. durations (the standard deviation) assessed across ∼9-month period. Associations between age groups, sex, using linear logistic regressions, proportions within (7-9 hours) or outside (<7 hours >9 range calculated. The sample consisted 67,254 (52,523 males, 14,731 females; aged mean ± SD 50 12 years). About 30% demonstrated an h/night. Even with hours, about 40% this Only 15% slept 7 9 at least 5 Female significantly longer than male participants, middle-aged shorter younger older participants. These findings indicate considerable proportion are not regularly sleeping among those do, irregular is prevalent. novel data raise several important questions regarding requirements need improved policy advocacy.

Abstract Study Objectives To investigate whether neurobehavioral impairments are exacerbated during successive cycles of sleep restriction and recovery in young adults, a variable short schedule can mitigate these relative to stable one. Methods Fifty-two healthy adults (25 males, aged: 21–28) were randomly assigned the group, or control group this laboratory-based study. They underwent two baseline nights 8-hour time-in-bed (TIB), followed by “weekday” opportunity manipulation “weekend” (8-hour TIB). During each period, groups received 6- TIBs night respectively, while 8-hour, 4-hour, 6-hour from first fifth night. Neurobehavioral functions assessed five times day. Results The showed faster vigilance deterioration second week as compared first. This effect was not observed group. Subjective alertness practice-based improvement processing speed attenuated both groups. Conclusions In more schedules incorporating days prophylactic might compounding deficits resulting recurrent restriction. However, subjective sleepiness still impaired schedules. Getting sufficient consistently is only way ensure optimal functioning.
