Abstract Objectives We examine the relationship between social isolation, poor health behaviors, and perceived worsening of older adults’ behaviors following coronavirus outbreak. assess extent to which psychological pathways mediate isolation behaviors. Methods Drawing on data from National Social Life Health Aging Project Round 3 (2015) its immune disease 2019 (COVID-19) substudy (2020; N = 2,549), we use generalized linear models explore how indicators during COVID-19 pandemic—infrequent in-person contact with friends family in 2020 decreased since started—are associated (1) (low physical activity, drinks per week, smoking, sleep) (2) (reports increased drinking feeling less rested) pandemic started. Results Infrequent was not Decreases contact, other hand, were Older adults who reported decreases more likely perceive a decrease an increase drinking, rested. Emotional well-being, particularly loneliness compared anxiety or depressive feelings, partially mediated friends, lesser extent, family. Discussion Our study suggests that may play distinct role shaping well-being pandemic.
