Food waste presents a continuous challenge for the food industry, leading to environmental pollution and economic issues. A substantial amount of waste, including by-products from fruits vegetables, non-edible items, other materials, is produced throughout supply chain, production consumption. Recycling valorizing perishable goods emerging as key multidisciplinary approach within circular bio-economy framework. This rich in raw by-products, can be repurposed natural source ingredients. Researchers increasingly focus on biomass valorization extract use components that add significant value. Traditional methods extracting these bio-compounds typically require solvents are time-consuming, underscoring need innovative techniques like ultrasound (US) extraction. Wastes processing vegetables industry used develop functional foods edible coatings, offering protection against various factors. comprehensive review paper discusses items using US technology, not only valuable but also treat wastewater beverage industry. It covers application biomolecules recovered this process development packaging.

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a toxic mycotoxin produced by some mold species from genera Penicillium and Aspergillus. OTA has been detected in cereals, cereal-derived products, dried fruits, wine, grape juice, beer, tea, coffee, cocoa, nuts, spices, licorice, processed meat, cheese, other foods. can induce wide range of health effects attributable to its toxicological properties, including teratogenicity, immunotoxicity, carcinogenicity, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity. not only humans but also harmful livestock like cows, goats, poultry. This why the European Union various countries regulate maximum permitted levels review intends summarize all main aspects concerning OTA, starting chemical structure fungi that produce it, presence food, toxicity, methods analysis, as well control strategies, both fungal development inactivation molecule. Finally, provides ideas for future approaches aimed at reducing

Aflatoxin (AFT) contamination poses a significant global public health and safety concern, prompting widespread apprehension. Of the various AFTs, aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) stands out for its pronounced toxicity association with spectrum of chronic ailments, including cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer. Lycopene, lipid-soluble natural carotenoid, has emerged as potential mitigator deleterious effects induced by AFB1 exposure, spanning cardiac injury, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, intestinal damage, reproductive impairment. This protective mechanism operates reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, lipid peroxidation, activating mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, facilitating activation biogenesis, endogenous antioxidant system, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related 2 (Nrf2)/kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1) peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1 (PGC-1) pathways, well regulating activities cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes. review provides an overview lycopene against exposure-induced underlying molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, it explores profile clinical applications lycopene. The present underscores lycopene’s promising detoxification agent intent to stimulate further research practical utilization in this domain.

Zearalenone (ZEN) is considered one of the most serious mycotoxins contaminating grains and their by-products, causing significant economic losses in feed food industries. Biodegradation pathways are currently efficient solution to remove ZEN contamination from foods. However, low degradation rates vulnerability environmental impacts limit application biodegradation pathways. Therefore, main research objective this article was screen strains that can efficiently degrade survive under harsh conditions. This study successfully isolated a new strain L9 which 108 ingredients. The results sequence alignment showed Bacillus velezensis. Meanwhile, we found rate reached 91.14% at 24 h confirmed primary mechanism biodegradation. exhibits resistance high temperature, acid, 0.3% bile salts. whole-genome sequencing analysis that, it possible encodes key enzyme, such as chitinase, carboxylesterases, lactone hydrolase, work together ZEN. In addition, 227 unique genes primarily involved its replication, recombination, repair, protective mechanisms. summary, excavated ZEN-degrading, genetically distinct velezensis provides solid foundation for detoxification natural environment.

Abstract There is still considerable controversy about the relative risk of mycotoxin exposure associated with consumption organic and conventional cereals. Using validated protocols, we carried out a systematic literature review meta‐analyses data on incidence concentrations mycotoxins produced by Fusarium, Claviceps, Penicillium , Aspergillus species in cereal grains/products. The standard weighted meta‐analysis concentration detected significant effect production system (organic vs. conventional) only for Fusarium deoxynivalenol, ∼50% higher than grains/products ( p < 0.0001). Weighted unweighted also small, but effects and/or T‐2/HT‐2 toxins, zearalenone, enniatin, beauvericin, ochratoxin A (OTA), aflatoxins. Multilevel identified climatic conditions, species, study type, analytical methods used as important confounding factors system. Overall, results from this suggest that (i) contamination decreased between 1990s 2020, (ii) levels are similar cereals human consumption, (iii) maintaining OTA below maximum (3.0 μg/kg) set EU remains major challenge.

Fungal infections of food and feed with toxigenic strains results in the accumulation harmful metabolites. In this study, antifungal activity two indigenous bacterial Bacillus amyloliquefaciens subtilis isolated from camel was investigated. The potential cell free supernatant (CFS) to reduce mycotoxins synthesis evaluated, impact their metabolites on fungal hyphae examined. High antagonistic exhibited by both strains. best observed against mycotoxigenic A. niger (Sp31 Sp33) inhibition zones 36.75 ± 0.7 mm 35.75 ±1.5 mm, B. subtilis, respectively. effects these strains' CFSs were investigated, found parasiticus, Penicillium spp., a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, wall morphology significantly altered CFS at very low concentration 1 %. heat stability evaluated various temperatures ranging −20 °C 100 °C, be highly stable, retaining niger. stable for 236 34 days storage, These findings suggest that are exceptional candidates biocontrol fungi reduction toxic

Sweet cherry pits, date seeds, and grape seeds are abundant fruit by-products in the Mediterranean region. Assessing their antioxidant capacity is crucial for valorization. Grape exhibited higher concentrations of total phenolic flavonoid contents, significant capacity. Epicatechin was main sweet pits (29–85 mg/g), while vanillic acid predominant across all (5–23 mg/g). However, some pit varieties exceeded Maximum Residue Levels (MRL) five pesticides, contained thirteen fungicide residues, below MRL. Ochratoxin A detected one seed but limit quantification. Additionally, showed an Al content approximately 130 mg/kg, along with levels As, Cd, Pb. Date high potential food pharmaceutical applications, pending evaluation chemical contaminants.
