This study addresses the effectiveness of ohmic heating technology (OH) for sustainable recovery phenolic compounds from Grape Pomace (GP) by hydroethanolic extraction. GP extracts biological potential was evaluated in terms antioxidant activity, cytotoxicity and preventive effect against reactive oxygen species (ROS). To understand if can be used as a functional ingredient, simulated gastrointestinal digestion performed to evaluate bioaccessibility. OH-assisted extraction proved an effective process with high capacity. The increased concentration total phenolics biotransformation high-molecular (anthocyanins, flavonoids resveratrol) simpler acids, improving extract displayed selective action cancer cells (Caco-2 HeLa) promoted ROS prevention. results highlighted ability OH bioactives its application nutraceutical or food formulations.

Gallic acid (GA), a phenolic found in fruits and vegetables, has been consumed by humans for centuries. Its extensive health benefits, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral properties, have well-documented. GA's potent antioxidant capabilities enable it to neutralize free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, protect cells from damage. Additionally, GA exerts anti-inflammatory effects inhibiting inflammatory cytokines enzymes, making potential therapeutic agent diseases. It also demonstrates anticancer properties cancer cell growth promoting apoptosis. Furthermore, offers cardiovascular lowering blood pressure, decreasing cholesterol, enhancing endothelial function, which may aid the prevention management of This review covers chemical structure, sources, identification quantification methods, biological GA, along with its applications food. As research progresses, future appears promising, uses functional foods, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals aimed at improving overall preventing disease. However, ongoing innovation are necessary fully understand address current challenges, establish mainstay nutritional interventions.

Agrifood industries generate large amounts of waste that may result in remarkable environmental problems, such as soil and water contamination. Therefore, proper management treatment have become an environmental, economic, social challenge. Most these wastes are exceptionally rich bioactive compounds (e.g., polyphenols) with potential applications the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical industries. Indeed, recovery polyphenols from agrifood is example circular bioeconomy, which contributes to valorization while providing solutions problems. In this context, unconventional extraction techniques at industrial scale, microwave-assisted (MAE), has demonstrated its efficacy laboratory level for analytical purposes, been suggested search more efficient procedures. On other hand, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) proposed green alternative typical solvents. This review aims provide comprehensive insights regarding phenolic waste. Specifically, it focuses on utilization MAE conjunction NADES. Moreover, delves into possibilities recycling reusing NADES a sustainable cost-efficient application. The results obtained MAE-NADES approach show high efficiency contributing practices field product extraction. However, further research necessary improve our understanding strategies, optimize yields, reduce overall costs, facilitate scaling-up.

Food waste presents a continuous challenge for the food industry, leading to environmental pollution and economic issues. A substantial amount of waste, including by-products from fruits vegetables, non-edible items, other materials, is produced throughout supply chain, production consumption. Recycling valorizing perishable goods emerging as key multidisciplinary approach within circular bio-economy framework. This rich in raw by-products, can be repurposed natural source ingredients. Researchers increasingly focus on biomass valorization extract use components that add significant value. Traditional methods extracting these bio-compounds typically require solvents are time-consuming, underscoring need innovative techniques like ultrasound (US) extraction. Wastes processing vegetables industry used develop functional foods edible coatings, offering protection against various factors. comprehensive review paper discusses items using US technology, not only valuable but also treat wastewater beverage industry. It covers application biomolecules recovered this process development packaging.

Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) are eco-friendly solvents with considerable potential for extracting bioactive compounds. In this study, we aimed to extract phenolic compounds from Hass avocado residues (epicarp and seed) using NADES in combination ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) pressurized liquid (PLE) as advanced processes. Ten eutectic mixtures, consisting of choline chloride (ChCl) or betaine hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA), well fructose (Fru), glucose, lactic acid (Lac), citric acid, glycerol donors (HBD), were prepared through stirring heating. The estimated values total phenol content (TPC), proanthocyanidin (PAC), monomeric anthocyanin (MAC), antioxidant capacity the extracts demonstrated a noticeable influence these solvents. PLE process significantly enhanced epicarp, evidenced by TPC (185 ± 9 mg gallic equivalent/g dry sample) PAC (77.8 6 B2/g values. Phytochemical characterization conducted via HPLC-QTOF-MS/MS revealed great ChCl:Fru ChCl:Lac, improvement efficiency PLE. results suggest that employing innovative along processes, especially under high pressures, provides sustainable approach recover agro-industrial waste, thus enabling their valorization.

Around two million tons of olive oil are produced in Europe annually, with Portugal being among the top five European oil-producing countries. Olive production results a substantial amount waste form leaves. These discarded leaves contain valuable phenolic compounds antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycaemic, neuroprotective, and antiproliferative properties. Due to their richness polyphenols health-promoting properties, can be considered potential functional food ingredient. Thus, sustainable practices for reusing leaf demand. In this study, polyphenolic content from different Portuguese locations was determined using HPLC-UV-Vis after defining best fit-for-purpose liquid extraction strategy. The differences vitro antioxidant activity these samples were by several methodologies based on radical scavenging (against 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), peroxyl (ORAC)) reducing properties (cupric-reducing capacity (CUPRAC), Folin-Ciocalteu assay (FC)), unveil relationship between profile quantity mechanisms capacity.
