A viologen-functionalized europium-based metal–organic framework, denoted as compound 1, has been synthesized solvothermally by employing 1,1′-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium dichloride (abbreviated H4bdcbpCl2). Compound 1 possesses a 2-fold parallel self-interpenetrating structure composed of two sets identical three-dimensional (3D) cationic frameworks with {4·84·12}2{42·82·102}{8}2 topology. The introduction tetracarboxylic group-decorated viologen derivative not only facilitates the formation helix-based high dimensionality and positively charged framework but also promotes photoinduced electron transfer (PET)-caused photochromic property. Significantly, demonstrates rapid detection process for nitrofurantoin (NFT) nitrofurazone (NFZ) in aqueous environments, exhibiting good recycling stability, large quenching coefficient (Ksv), low limit (LOD), anti-interference ability through fluorescence turn-off mechanism. This phenomenon was further investigated spectroscopic analyses density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Moreover, exhibits sensing capabilities various ions system, including Fe3+, Cr2O72–, MnO4–, which verify that could serve multifunctional sensor molecular ionic pollutants.

The fabrication of molecular crystalline materials with fast, multistimuli-responsive behavior and the construction corresponding structure–activity relationship are extraordinary significance for development smart materials. In this context, three functional metal–organic polyhedra (MOP), {[Dy2(bcbp)3(NO3)1.5(H2O)7]·Cl4.2·(NO3)0.3·H2O}n (1), {[Dy2(bcbp)4(H2O)8]Cl6}n (2), {[Eu2(bcbp)4(H2O)10]Cl6·H2O}n (3; bcbp = 1,1′-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium), were successfully prepared characterized. All compounds exhibit rapid reversible photochromic electrochromic dual-responsive behaviors. Furthermore, benefiting from well-defined crystal structure different responsive behaviors, photoinduced electron transfer (PIET) process explored. addition, considering excellent performance, function filter paper organic glass used ink-free printing UV light detection.

It is necessary to develop stable and fast multistimuli responsive materials due the growing demand in our daily life. In this work, a new viologen-based Cd-complex (1) exhibits multiple thermochromic photochromic behaviors through 10 states with 7 colors. For example, it responds both Cu Kα/Mo Kα X-ray sources UV dual light quickly color change from colorless dark blue (1X) (Cu sources) cyan (1-UV) (UV light), respectively. Interestingly, three-step coloration phenomenon when heated, which unprecedented viologen compounds. Crystal 1 undergoes pink, blue, brown under 130, 180, 240 °C, addition, upon fumigation, 1P 1Q undergo decoloration process (1K) yellow (1T), Four more (1P, 1K, 1T, 1O) obtained via dehydration–hydration treatment are all photochromic. More importantly, single-crystal–single-crystal transformation (SC–SC), of were investigated molecular level, also rather rare for species. The detailed electron donor pathways transfer clearly given according results crystal structure. colorful external stimuli may be attributed transfer.

Donor-acceptor (D-A) hybrid crystals are an emerging kind of crystalline material composed semiconductive inorganic donors and organic acceptors. Except for the intrinsic photochromism, recently we have reported that anion-π polyoxometalate (POM)/naphthalenediimide (NDI) could produce interesting room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) quantum yield up to 7.2%. Herein, extended into core-substituted NDIs anticipated regulation their photochromic RTP properties. Thus, two crystals, namely (H4BDMPy-Br2NDI)·(NMP)4·(HPW12O40) (1) (H4BDMPy-I2NDI)·(HPW12O40) (2) (H2BDMPy-Br2NDI: N,N'-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)-2,6-dibromo-1,4,5,8-naphthalenediimide H2BDMPy-I2NDI: N,N'-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)-2,6-diiodide-1,4,5,8-naphthalenediimide), been synthesized from phosphotungstic anions (PW12O403-) Br or I NDIs. Compared core-unsubstituted analogues (H4BDMPy-NDI)·(NMP)4·(HPW12O40) (3), 2 with photosensitive iodine substituents is more sensitive light, which can become discolored under natural light. As a result heavy-atom effect, 1 exhibits remarkable 10.2% lifetime 1.14 ms.

Three anionic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) {[Zn3(BTEC)2(H2O)(4-BCBPY)]·(H2O)}n (1–3) (BTEC4− = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid anion, 4-BCBPY2+ 1,1′-bis(4-cyanobenzyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium dication) were synthesized in the reaction of with different metal salts such as ZnNO3, ZnCl2, and ZnSO4, under solvothermal conditions presence chloride. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that compounds 1, 2 3 have MOF structures based on binuclear building units, which are connected by two protonated BTEC4− ligands three zinc ions, viologen cation is located channel to achieve charge balance. Compounds good photosensitivity, respond sunlight, UV light blue ray, turn blue. The D–A distance π–π stacking discolored samples (1P, 2P 3P) changed. In addition, showed visible color changes ammonia vapor, rapidly changing from white At same time, exhibited fluorescence quenching vapor Cr2O72−. It further proved fluorescent sensors a low detection limit (for Cr2O72−: 10−5 M) high sensitivity for was found photochromic behavior, sensing properties can be tuned nature salts.

Luminescent Zn(II) complexes that respond to external stimuli are of wide interest due their potential applications. Schiff base with O,N,O-hydrazone shows excellent luminescence properties multi-coordination sites for different coordination modes. In this work, three salicylaldehyde hydrazone (1, 2a, 2b) were synthesized and stimuli-responsive behaviors in states explored. The donor–acceptor (D–A) hybrid crystals are an emerging class of crystalline complexes composed semiconductive organic and inorganic components at the molecular level. These unique not only possess intrinsic electron-transfer photochromic properties upon high-energy irradiations but possibly exhibit unusual room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emissions when suitable charge-transfer states formed with low-energy irradiations. Herein, we reported that interesting D–A indeed exhibited two such in which components, polyoxometalates (POMs) naphthalene diimides (NDIs), intercontacted through uncommon anion−π interactions. To go deep into their structure–property relationships, five different POMs (PW12O403–, SiW12O404– or Mo6O192–) protonated (or zinc-coordinated) pyrazolyl-substituted NDIs have been synthesized. Their light-induced color changes RTP systematically investigated, revealed matching electron energy levels first factor to decide while heavy atoms both coordination metal cations mainly beneficial quantum yields. Notably, yields for these up 5.9%.
