Growth-promoting antibiotics have been banned by law in the livestock and poultry breeding industry many countries. Various alternatives to investigated for using livestock. Epimedium (EM) is an herb rich flavonoids that has beneficial effects on animals. Therefore, this study was planned explore potential of EM as a new alternative antibiotic product animal feed.A total 720 1-day-old male broilers (Arbor Acres Plus) were randomly divided into six groups fed basal diet (normal control; NC), supplemented with (75 mg/kg chlortetracycline; CTC), 100, 200, 400 or 800 extract 6 weeks (EM100, EM200, EM400 EM800 groups). The growth performance at 3 measured. Serum, intestinal tissue feces collected assay antioxidant indexes, permeability, lactic acid short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) profiles, microbial composition, expression barrier genes. The average daily feed intake CTC group 1-21 d significantly higher than NC group, had no statistical difference groups. Compared gain EM200 increased 1-42 d. decreased levels lipopolysaccharide D-lactic serum throughout study. concentrations acid, acetic propionic butyric SCFAs birds 200 those chlortetracycline. dietary supplementation chlortetracycline ileal SOD1, Claudin-1 ZO-1 genes. Dietary relative abundances g_NK4A214_group Lactobacillus jejunal, while Microbacterium, Kitasatospora, Bacteroides jejunal Gallibacterium ileum decreased.Supplementation improved composition microbiota regulating core bacterial genus Lactobacillus, concentration metabolites flora, thereby improving capacity enhancing function tight junction proteins. The increasing emergence and dissemination of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens accelerate the desires for new antibiotics. Natural products dominate preferred chemical scaffolds discovery antibacterial agents. Here, potential natural flavonoids from plants against MDR bacteria, is demonstrated. Structure-activity relationship analysis shows prenylation modulates activity obtains two compounds, α-mangostin (AMG) isobavachalcone (IBC). AMG IBC not only display rapid bactericidal Gram-positive but also restore susceptibility colistin Gram-negative pathogens. Mechanistic studies generally show such compounds bind to phospholipids membrane, result in dissipation proton motive force metabolic perturbations, through distinctive modes action. efficacy four models associated with infection or contamination, These results suggest that may be a promising underappreciated reservoir circumvent existing antibiotic resistance.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance represents a serious threat to human health across the globe. The cost of bringing new antibiotic from discovery market is high and return on investment low. Furthermore, development antibiotics has slowed dramatically since 1950s’ golden age discovery. Plants produce variety bioactive secondary metabolites that could be used fuel future pipeline. While many studies have focused specific aspects plants plant natural products with antibacterial properties, comprehensive review potential never before been attempted. Objectives: This systematic aims evaluate reports significant activities. Methods: Following PRISMA model, we searched three electronic databases: Web Science, PubMed SciFinder by using keywords: “plant,” “antibacterial,” “inhibitory concentration.” Results: We identified total 6,083 articles published between 1946 2019 then reviewed 66% these (4,024) focusing 2012 2019. A rigorous selection process was implemented clear inclusion exclusion criteria, yielding data 958 species derived 483 scientific articles. Antibacterial activity found in 51 79 vascular orders throughout phylogenetic tree. Most are reported within eudicots, bulk being asterids. not prominent monocotyledons. Phylogenetic distribution strongly supports concept chemical evolution clades, especially more eudicot families. Lamiaceae, Fabaceae Asteraceae were most represented families, while Cinnamomum verum , Rosmarinus vulgaris Thymus studied species. South Africa site collection. Crude extraction methanol type leaves main tissue investigated. Finally, Staphylococcus aureus targeted pathogenic bacteria studies. closely examine 70 medicinal 15 families literature. Conclusion: depicts current state knowledge regarding antibacterials provides powerful recommendations for research directions.

The extensive usage of antibiotics and the rapid emergence antimicrobial-resistant microbes (AMR) are becoming important global public health issues. Many solutions to these problems have been proposed, including developing alternative compounds with antimicrobial activities, managing existing antimicrobials, rapidly detecting AMR pathogens. Among all them, employing such as phytochemicals alone or in combination other antibacterial agents appears be both an effective safe strategy for battling against present review summarizes scientific evidence on biochemical, pharmacological, clinical aspects used treat microbial pathogenesis. A wide range commercial products currently available market. Their well-documented efficacy suggests that phytomedicines valuable sources new types future use. Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are a natural product class that has undergone significant expansion due to the rapid growth in genome sequencing data recognition they made by biosynthetic pathways share many characteristic features. Their mode of actions cover wide range biological processes include binding membranes, receptors, enzymes, lipids, RNA, metals as well use cofactors signaling molecules. This review covers currently known modes action (MOA) RiPPs. In turn, mechanisms which these molecules interact with their targets provide rich set molecular paradigms can be used for design or evolution new improved activities given relative ease engineering this review, coverage is limited RiPPs originating from bacteria.

The overuse of antibiotics in the past decades has led to emergence a large number drug-resistant microorganisms. In recent years, infection rate caused by multidrug-resistant microorganisms been increasing, which become one most challenging problems modern medicine. Plant-derived secondary metabolites and their derivatives have identified display significant antimicrobial abilities with good tolerance less adverse side effects, potentially having different action mechanisms microbial origin. Thus, these phyto-antimicrobials prospect treatment Terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids made up predominant part currently reported phytochemicals activities. Synthetic biology research around compounds is hotspot fields not only illuminated biosynthesis pathways but also offered new methods for production. this review, we discuss investigations terpenoid, alkaloid, flavonoid agents—using artemisinin oleanolic acid (terpenoids), berberine colchicine (alkaloids), baicalin (flavonoids) as examples—around mechanisms, pathway elucidation, key enzyme identification, heterologous production, order provide useful hints plant-derived agent discovery development.

However, current ISF extraction techniques require bulky instruments are both time-consuming complicated, which has inspired the development of viable alternatives such as those relying on skin or tissue puncturing with microneedles. Currently, microneedles widely employed for transdermal delivery have been successfully used by different mechanisms facilitate subsequent The integration sensors enables situ analysis specific compound monitoring, while monitoring functions wearable devices allows real-time dose modification. Herein, we review progress based microneedle-assisted discuss related future opportunities challenges.
