The
western
mosquitofish
(Gambusia
affinis
(G.
affinis))
is
often
the
only
fish
that
survives
in
various
selenium-contaminated
aquatic
environments.
However,
mechanisms
of
its
survival
such
environments
remain
seldom
explored.
In
this
study,
acute
toxicity
selenomethionine
(Se-Met)
a
variety
species
(four
oviparous
and
four
ovoviviparous
species)
was
evaluated,
followed
by
chronic
effects
Se-Met
on
G.
zebrafish
(Danio
rerio

Excess
dietary
seleno-l-methionine
(Se-Met)
induces

adverse
effects
in
fish
inhabiting
the
Se-contaminated
environments.
