The western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis (G. affinis)) is often the only fish that survives in various selenium-contaminated aquatic environments. However, mechanisms of its survival such environments remain seldom explored. In this study, acute toxicity selenomethionine (Se-Met) a variety species (four oviparous and four ovoviviparous species) was evaluated, followed by chronic effects Se-Met on G. zebrafish (Danio rerio (D. rerio)), focusing Se accumulation gonads offspring, reproductive biology, offspring development. Our results showed LC50-96h largest among eight fish, confirming elevated resistance to Se. Meanwhile, transcripts genes related selenoproteins sulfoproteins opposite responses between D. exposure, along with altered levels total but not fish. exposures gonads, gonadal development embryonic early larval development, efflux embryos larvae were apparently different rerio. Finally, differentially expressed (particularly antioxidant inflammation) mostly stimulated inhibited This study has demonstrated capacity metabolism physiology can help partially explain Se-contaminated ecosystems.

Excess dietary seleno-l-methionine (Se-Met) induces various adverse effects in fish inhabiting the Se-contaminated environments. However, there is an extreme paucity of data on excess Se-Met microbiota gastrointestinal (GI) tract fish. In this study, Japanese medaka Oryzias latipes (three months old) were fed enriched diets at environmentally relevant concentrations: 2.90 (Control: (C), 6.69 (L), 11.89 (M), and 27.05 (H) μg Se/g dw) for 60 d. Histopathological, high throughput sequencing, biochemical approaches used to investigate alterations histology microbial communities GI tract, enzymatic activity, transcripts closely related genes. The results showed that weight was reduced ∼13% from L H treatments. Decreased height thickness villus observed treatment. Meanwhile, level D-lactate activity diamine oxidase (DAO), protease, lipase inhibited genes inflammation (i.e., IL-1β IL-8) elevated, while those intestinal barrier cdh1, ZO-1, ocln, cldn7) addition, alpha diversity genus higher treatment than control, composition community altered by Se-Met. Furthermore, 5 genera (Rhodobacter, Cloacibacterium, Bdellovibrio, Shinella, Aeromonas) exhibited largest variation abundance among This study has demonstrated inhibits growth, causes hispathological damage alters latipes.

Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cHABs) pose a risk to exposed aquatic and terrestrial species. Numerous studies have addressed effects of single toxins while much less attention has been devoted mixtures cHAB metabolites that are continually released by living cyanobacteria. Neuro-impairment associated with cHABs reported in fish, though the mechanism remains unclear. Here we embryos Sinocyclocheilus grahami, an endangered Microcystis aeruginosa exudates (MaE) evaluate neurotoxicity toxicity mechanism(s). We found MaE affected embryonic development increasing malformation mortality rates decreasing fertilization rate. also inhibited fish neurobehavior including touch response, social frequency, swimming distance, aggravated light-stimulation response. Neurobehavior suppression resulted from decrease excitatory neurotransmitters acetylcholine dopamine, even receptors increased. gene protein expression neurotransmitters, synthetic and/or degrading enzymes, receptors. Our findings shed light on specific mechanisms which induces early life stages contributes improvement conservation strategy for this

A 56-day feeding trial was conducted to assess the effects of different viscous guar gum on growth, intestinal flora, and health Micropterus salmoides. Four practical diets with 42.5 % crude protein 13.7 lipid were formulated contain 8 cellulose three viscosities (2500, 5200, 6000 mPa·s) gum. Dietary inhibits fish growth feed utilization, decreases α-diversity negatively alters flora structure metabolite composition. High down-regulated tight junction, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic related gene's expression, decreased digesta butyrate/histamine ratio; increased abundance Plesiomonas shigelloides. These results suggest that dietary adversely affects by disrupting composition, viscosity should be considered when using as a binder in aquafeeds.

Selenium is an important and essential trace element in organisms, but its effects on organisms are also a "double-edged sword". deficiency or excess can endanger the health of humans animals. In order to thoroughly understand nutritional value toxicity hazards selenium, researchers have conducted many studies model animal zebrafish. However, there lack induction summary relevant research which selenium acts This paper provides review reported studies. Firstly, this article summarizes benefits zebrafish from three aspects: Promoting growth, Enhancing immune function anti-tumor ability, Antagonizing some pollutants, such as mercury. Then, aspects introduced: nervous system behavior, reproductive damage organs. describes how different forms compounds health. Finally, prospects for future directions presented.
