Abstract Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are well‐known for their antimicrobial properties, but widespread use is limited due to suboptimal efficiency and safety concerns. Recent progress in materials science has paved the way development of QAC‐based composites (QACCs). QACCs with diverse compositions have shown enhanced effectiveness biosafety various applications, such as food packaging, capacitive deionization, household antimicrobials. Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are used in consumer and industrial products, including disinfectants. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, disinfectant use has increased, purportedly increasing loads wastewater treatment plants environment. To understand how increased usage affected QAC loadings determine effectively remove QACs from liquid effluent that is discharged surface groundwaters, influent samples were collected four (treatment capacities < 5 MGD > 100 MGD) for 21 months beginning May 2020.
