o-Vanillin is an effective plant-derived compound inhibiting the growth of Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus). In this study, o-vanillin disrupted cell membrane A. via hindering K+ transport across plasma membrane, decreasing content lipid, ergosterol and trehalose, inducing lipid peroxidation. The HOG pathway might be upregulated as glycerol increased. Moreover, significantly promoted oxidative stress, indicated by accumulation intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) decreased activities antioxidant enzymes (e.g. superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx)). Finally, transcriptomic analysis was conducted to quantify differentially expressed genes treated o-vanillin. Consistent with above phenotypic changes, involved in several biological pathways (ergosterol biosynthesis, osmotic stress response) were regulated Real-time quantitative PCR (QRT-PCR) results showed that almost all participating biosynthesis downregulated addition, can effectively suppress pathogenicity on peanut butter. This study provides a new evidence antifungal activity against membranes flavus, will promote application into preservation grains agricultural products.

Aspergillus flavus is a ubiquitous pathogen that can infect many foods and grains, it produces large amounts of aflatoxins during their storage. Aflatoxins are considered highly toxic carcinogenic to humans, they cause great damage crop production, food security, human health. Thus, controlling A. in grains presents challenge humans worldwide. Over the past decade, strategies have been demonstrated be useful These methods involve physical agents, chemical biological etc. Some these currently used actual production. In this review, we summarize reported for storage ten years elucidate advantages disadvantages.
