The nonradiative conversion of light energy into heat (photothermal therapy, PTT) or sound (photoacoustic imaging, PAI) has been intensively investigated for the treatment and diagnosis cancer, respectively. By taking advantage nanocarriers, both imaging therapeutic functions together with enhanced tumour accumulation have thoroughly studied to improve pre-clinical efficiency PAI PTT. In this review, we first summarize development inorganic organic nano photothermal transduction agents (PTAs) strategies improving PTT outcomes, including applying appropriate laser dosage, guiding via techniques, developing PTAs absorption in second NIR window, increasing (PCE), also tumours. Second, introduce advantages combining other therapies cancer treatment. Third, emerging applications cancer-related research are exemplified. Finally, perspectives challenges combating especially regarding their clinical translation, discussed. We believe that having noteworthy features would become promising next-generation non-invasive theranostic techniques our ability combat cancers.

Abstract The near‐infrared window between 1000 and 1700 nm, commonly termed the “second (NIR‐II) window,” has quickly emerged as a highly attractive optical region for biological imaging. In contrast to conventional imaging in visible 400 700 well first NIR (NIR‐I) 900 NIR‐II offers numerous merits, including higher spatial resolution, deeper penetration depth, lower absorption scattering from substrates with minimal tissue autofluorescence. Noninvasive techniques, specifically fluorescence photoacoustic (PA) imaging, have embodied attractiveness of several agents demonstrating superior performance clinically approved NIR‐I agents. Consequently, been increasingly explored due its tremendous potential preclinical studies clinical utility. Herein, progress is reported. Starting highlighting importance spectral region, emergence latest development various PA probes their applications are then discussed. Perspectives on promises challenges facing this nascent yet exciting field given.

In vivo imaging in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm), which enables us to look deeply into living subjects, is producing marvelous opportunities for biomedical research and clinical applications. Very recently, there has been an upsurge of interdisciplinary studies focusing on developing versatile types inorganic/organic fluorophores that can be used noninvasive NIR-IIa/IIb (NIR-IIa, 1300-1400 nm; NIR-IIb, 1500-1700 nm) with near-zero tissue autofluorescence deeper penetration. This review provides overview reports published date design, properties, molecular imaging, theranostics fluorophores. First, we summarize design concepts up-to-date functional biomaterials, order single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), quantum dots (QDs), rare-earth-doped nanoparticles (RENPs), organic (OFs). Then, these novel modalities applications brought by superior fluorescent properties are reviewed. Finally, challenges perspectives future translation, aiming at boosting application progress NIR-IIa NIR-IIb technology highlighted.

Abstract Development of single near‐infrared (NIR) laser triggered phototheranostics for multimodal imaging guided combination therapy is highly desirable but still a big challenge. Herein, novel small‐molecule dye DPP‐BT designed and synthesized, which shows strong absorption in the first NIR window (NIR‐I) fluorescence emission second region (NIR‐II). Such not only acts as dual‐modal contrast agent NIR‐II photoacoustic (PA) imaging, also serves combined therapeutic photothermal (PTT) photodynamic (PDT). The all‐in‐one phototheranostic nanoparticles are constructed by encapsulating DPP‐BT, chemotherapy drug DOX, natural phase‐change materials with folic acid functionalized amphiphile. Notably, under irradiation, DOX can effectively release from such via NIR‐induced hyperthermia DPP‐BT. By intravenous injection into Hela tumor‐bearing mice, tumor size location be accurately observed fluorescence/PA imaging. From vitro vivo results, simultaneously present remarkable antitumor efficacy PTT/PDT/chemo therapy, laser. Overall, this work provides an innovative strategy to design construct nanoplatforms clinical phototheranostics.

Abstract Bacterial infection can cause chronic nonhealing wounds, which may be a great threat to public health. It is highly desirable develop an injectable wound dressing hydrogel with multifunctions including self‐healing, remodeling, antibacterial, radical scavenging ability, and excellent photothermal properties promote the regeneration of damaged tissues in clinical practice. In this work, dopamine‐modified gelatin (Gel‐DA) employed for first time as biotemplate enhancing biomineralization ability synthesize gelatin@Ag nanoparticles (Gel‐DA@Ag NPs). Further, prepared Gel‐DA@Ag NPs antioxidant activity near‐infrared (NIR) laser irradiation synergistic antibacterial behavior are fixed guar gum based hydrogels through formation borate/didiol bonds possess remolding, injectable, self‐healing performance. addition, multifunctional completely cover irregular shape prevent secondary injury. More importantly, these platforms under NIR significantly accelerate healing more skin appendages like hair follicles blood vessels appearing. Therefore, it expected that serve competitive dressings biomedical field, bacteria‐derived other tissue repair related reactive oxygen species overexpression.
