Synthetic molecular probes, chemosensors, and nanosensors used in combination with innovative assay protocols hold great potential for the development of robust, low-cost, fast-responding sensors that are applicable biofluids (urine, blood, saliva). Particularly, metabolites, neurotransmitters, drugs, inorganic ions is highly desirable due to a lack suitable biosensors. In addition, monitoring analysis metabolic signaling networks cells organisms by optical probes chemosensors becoming increasingly important biology medicine. Thus, new perspectives personalized diagnostics, theranostics, biochemical/medical research will be unlocked when standing limitations artificial binders receptors overcome. this review, we survey synthetic sensing systems have promising (future) application detection small molecules, cations, anions aqueous media biofluids. Special attention was given provide readily measurable signal through dynamic covalent chemistry, supramolecular host-guest interactions, or nanoparticles featuring plasmonic effects. Abstract As a relatively new type of fluorescent carbon‐based nanomaterials, multicolor carbon dots (MCDs) have attracted much attention because their excellent biocompatibility, tunable photoluminescence (PL), high quantum yield, and unique electronic physicochemical properties. The emission characteristics (CDs) obviously depend on the source precursor, reaction conditions, environment, which directly or indirectly determines CDs. Therefore, this review is first systematic classification summary multiple regulation methods synthetic MCDs reviews recent research progress in synthesis from variety precursor materials such as aromatic molecules, small organic natural biomass, focusing how different produce corresponding MCDs. This also introduces innovative applications fields biological imaging, light‐emitting diodes (LEDs), sensing, anti‐counterfeiting due to PL It hoped that by selecting appropriate adjustment methods, can inspire guide future design tailored MCDs, provide help for development multifunctional

Abstract Ultrasmall nanoparticles are often grouped under the broad umbrella term of “nanoparticles” when reported in literature. However, for biomedical applications, their small sizes give them intimate interactions with biological species and endow unique functional physiochemical properties. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) an emerging class ultrasmall which have demonstrated considerable biocompatibility been employed as potent theragnostic platforms. These particles find application increasing drug solubility targeting, along facilitating passage drugs across impermeable membranes (i.e., blood brain barrier). Further functionality can be triggered by various environmental conditions or external stimuli pH, temperature, near Infrared (NIR) light, ultrasound), intrinsic fluorescence is valuable diagnostic applications. The focus this review to shed light on therapeutic potential CQDs identify how they travel through body, reach site action, administer effect, excreted. Investigation into toxicity compatibility larger nanoparticle carriers also examined. future applications promising due multifunctional attributes documented biocompatibility. As nanomaterial platforms become more commonplace clinical treatments, commercialization CQD therapeutics anticipated.

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) derived from biomass, a suggested green approach for nanomaterial synthesis, often possess poor optical properties and have low photoluminescence yield (PLQY). This study employed an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis (CHFS) process to synthesise efficient nitrogen-doped carbon (N-CQDs) biomass precursors (glucose in the presence of ammonia). The concentrations ammonia, as nitrogen dopant precursor, were varied optimise CQDs. Optimised N-CQDs showed significant enhancement fluorescence emission with PLQY 9.6% compared pure glucose derived-CQDs (g-CQDs) without doping which less than 1%. With stability over pH range 2 11, excellent sensitivity nano-sensor highly toxic highly-pollutant chromium (VI), where (PL) quenching was observed. optimised nitrogen-doping demonstrated effective tuning overall electronic structure resulting enhanced performance nano-sensor.
