Degrowth
is
a
planned
reduction
of
energy
and
resource
use
designed
to
bring
the
economy
back
into
balance
with
living
world
in
way
that
reduces
inequality
improves
human
well-being.
Over
past
few
years,
idea
has
attracted
significant
attention
among
academics
social
movements,
but
for
people
new
it
raises
number
questions.
Here
I
set
out
clarify
three
specific
issues:
(1)
specify
what
degrowth
means,
argue
framing
an
asset,
not
liability;
(2)
explain
how
differs
fundamentally
from
recession;
(3)
affirm
primarily
focused
on
high-income
nations,
explore
implications
global
South.

The
novel
coronavirus
(COVID-19)
is
challenging
the
world.
With
no
vaccine
and
limited
medical
capacity
to
treat
disease,
nonpharmaceutical
interventions
(NPI)

The
rapid
anthropogenic
climate
change
that
is
being
experienced
in
the
early
twenty-first
century
intimately
entwined
with
health
and
functioning
of
biosphere.
Climate
impacting
ecosystems

changes

Abstract
The
stability
and
resilience
of
the
Earth
system
human
well-being
are
inseparably
linked

yet
their
interdependencies
generally
under-recognized;
consequently,
they
often
treated
independently

Here,
we
use
modelling
literature
assessment
to
quantify
safe
just
boundaries
(ESBs)
for
climate,
biosphere,
water
nutrient
cycles,
aerosols
at
global
subglobal
scales.
We
propose
ESBs
maintaining
(safe
ESBs)
minimizing
exposure
significant
harm
humans
from
change
(a
necessary
but
not
sufficient
condition
justice)

stricter
or
sets
integrated
ESB.
Our
findings
show
that
justice
considerations
constrain
more
than
safety
climate
atmospheric
aerosol
loading.
Seven
eight
globally
quantified
