C–H activation has surfaced as an increasingly powerful tool for molecular sciences, with notable applications to material crop protection, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Despite major advances, the vast majority of these functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. Given cost-effective sustainable nature earth-abundant first row metals, development less toxic, inexpensive 3d catalysts gained considerable recent momentum a significantly more environmentally-benign economically-attractive alternative. The present review is devoted to summarizing the recent advances (2015-2017) in field of metal-catalysed group-directed C-H functionalisation. Molecular syntheses largely rely on time- and labour-intensive prefunctionalization strategies. In contrast, C-H activation represents an increasingly powerful approach that avoids lengthy of prefunctionalized substrates, with great potential for drug discovery, the pharmaceutical industry, material sciences, crop protection, among others. The enantioselective functionalization omnipresent bonds has emerged as a transformative tool step- atom-economical generation chiral molecular complexity. However, this rapidly growing research area remains dominated by noble transition metals, prominently featuring toxic palladium, iridium rhodium catalysts. Transition metal-catalyzed aryl C-H activation is a powerful synthetic tool as it offers step and atom-economical routes to site-selective functionalization. Compared with proximal ortho-C-H activation, distal (meta- and/or para-) remains more challenging due the inaccessibility of these sites in formation energetically favorable organometallic pretransition states. Directing catalyst toward bonds requires judicious template engineering design, well prudent choice ligands. This review aims summarize recent elegant discoveries exploiting directing group assistance, transient mediators or traceless directors, noncovalent interactions, ligand selection control activation.

Abstract Transition metal‐catalyzed enantioselective functionalization of C−H bond, the most abundant functionality in organic molecules, has emerged as an expedient synthetic approach to streamline synthesis complex chiral molecules. Despite significant progress, traditional directing group‐enabled strategies require additional steps for installation and removal groups from target molecule. The recently developed asymmetric using transient ( c TDGs) offers a promising alternative that can circumvent this obstacle therefore simplify process. In Minireview, we briefly discuss advent recent advances emerging concept, with emphasis on discussing creation various stereogenic centers developments TDGs.
